I have an UBR and i really like it, but I'm trying to get my AR really light weight, i know the ACS is really light, but i think the UBR is a top of the line stock...?
Any help?

Re: UBR Vs ACS?

Hornadyyy,

I think you ought not over complicate matters with regards to your specific goal. Meaning, if the ACS works for you and helps you further achieve your goal (ie a lighter weapon), than you should utilize it. The UBR is a very nice piece of kit for sure (though I'm not particularly fond of the cheek weld it provides...but that's a personal preference), the ACS is no slouch. The UBR is heavier, but sometimes that can be a good thing depending on how your weapon balances.

Just my 0.2 cents

Good luck, buddy

Re: UBR Vs ACS?

I have UBR and ACS's. ACS is lighter, but not really all that light. If you want a light stock the magpul CTR or MOE is lighter than the lightened version of the ACS.

For me, the ultimate lightweight carbine stock is the old Vltor Modstock. Doesn't have a rubber pad like the new ones, and I have the non storage tube panel on the right side. In that config it's lighter than my CTR's.

Re: UBR Vs ACS?

I have every Magpul stock made, including the 870 rem stock. I love the UBR although it's meant for heavier rifles, with more kick if you will. If you want a very light stock, I have several Vltors, with better cheek weld than the UBR, like the STR, ACS, ACSL etc. I also have many MOE'S, CTR's, and PRS's. It's all preference, and if you want light weight, then try the Vltor.

Re: UBR Vs ACS?

ACS's are very nice and as you said much lighter than the UBR. The UBR is a very good feeling stock and screams quality but the ACS on a LMT buffer that fits tightly feels just as good. I would get a LMT buffer tube and a ACS and never look back. The UBR is a nice stock and all but damn is it a pig.

I have three.
1 fixed, 1 m-4 and 1 folding on the XCR.

+1 for the Ace Stock. I used to use one all the time and still have a lower with one on it. I replaced it with a PRS, just to add weight, and a monopod

Re: UBR Vs ACS?

Different tools for different jobs. I gave up and bought every stock I thought I liked. Figured out which ones I actually liked and sold the rest on arf.com. Ordered a bunch of the ones I like making sure to have some extras on hand.

I have a UBR on my AR-10 SPR and an extra that goes on and off one of my ar15 carbine that has a dd 12.o lite rail.

Re: UBR Vs ACS?

I just got my LRP-07 with UBR stock and I LOVE IT. It just feels perfect with my Swarovski Z6I scope. I cannot wait to shoot the hell out of this thing.

Re: UBR Vs ACS?

Hornadyyy, how is the balance on your rifle? The UBR is heavier but if you have a front-biased rifle on weight distribution (heavy barrel, suppressor, any lights or lasers, etc) a heavy stock can balance it out.

Switching to a lighter stock might save you a few ounces on the scale, but will ruin the balance of the rifle. Weight distribution should be taken into account.

Re: UBR Vs ACS?

Balance is important, but I'm always surprised at the balance point on most of my AR's.

This lightweight is around 7lbs. Normally balances on the forward edge of the magwell. With a 21oz Gemtech halo on the end it balances about an inch and a half forward. (Basically the forward edge of the bbl nut.) Even with the suppressor it's a dream to shoot offhand. No matter what, reduced weight makes the rifle easier to handle. Still your best savings will be in the barrel. Lighter barrel makes driving it from target to target much easier.

This AR-10T weighs around 16lbs. It's balance point is just on the front edge of the magwell. But holy shit is it a pain to shoot offhand. I've been able to get a nice figure 8 wobble, but still that shit wore me out. I was almost able to hit a 100% IPSC at 750yds. I bet if the rifle was 5lbs lighter it would have helped immensely. Of course a buddy of Bigwheels did hit it and he did it with a huge 300winmag that probably weighed just as much as my AR-10T.

Re: UBR Vs ACS?

The lightweight barrel helps tons. I opted for a 14.5" LW Daniel Defense barrel on my last carbine with a pin/welded suppressor mount to make 16". It's right under 7lbs and balances at the magwell running a Vltor iMod. I'm glad that the last few years of the AR market has seen a downsizing on weight. For a while, it got ridiculous with people bolting on separate multiple lighting solutions, lasers, bipods, etc.

I feel the pain of your AR10. I have a LR308 and Mk12, The Mk12 gets a bit awkward with the stainless Ops Inc can but it's not too bad. I currently have a 26" bull barrel and PRI carbon fiber foreend on the 308, and not even the heavy PRS balances it out.
