So how come gov.gov agencies are arming up?

[Mods: if this is considered "political" my apologies, I'll accept whatever punishment you consider appropriate, but it's damned strange, and from what I can tell not much different from the DHS buying 750 million rounds post below.]

Hollow point bullets designed to cause maximum organ damage

Why would the National Weather Service need to purchase large quantities of powerful ammo? That’s the question many are asking after the federal agency followed in the footsteps of the Department of Homeland Security in putting out a solicitation for 46,000 rounds of hollow point bullets.

A solicitation which appears on the FedBizOpps website [1] asks for 16,000 rounds of .40 S&W jacketed hollow point (JHP) bullets, noted for their strength, to be delivered to locations in Ellsworth, Maine, and New Bedford, Mass.

A further 6,000 rounds of S&W JHP will be sent to Wall, New Jersey, with another 24,000 rounds of the same bullets heading to the weather station in St. Petersburg, Florida.

The solicitation also asks for 500 paper targets to be delivered to the same locations in Maine, Massachusetts and New Jersey.

The National Weather Service is is one of six scientific agencies that make up the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

The solicitation requires a response by August 21.
The NWS is following its federal counterpart the DHS in securing large quantities of ammo. Back in March,Homeland Security purchased 450 million rounds [2] of .40-caliber hollow point bullets that are designed to expand upon entry and cause maximum organ damage, prompting questions as to why the DHS needed such a large amount of powerful bullets merely for training purposes.

As the Business Insider notes [3], hollow point bullets have been “illegal in international warfare since 1899.”

The DHS is also planning to purchase a further 750 million rounds of different types of ammo in a separate solicitation [4] that also expires on August 20, including 357 mag rounds that are able to penetrate walls.

The DHS recently put out an order for riot gear [5] in preparation for the upcoming DNC, RNC and presidential inauguration. The U.S. Army is also busy [5] buying similar equipment.

The DHS also recently purchased a number of bullet-proof checkpoint booths [6] that include ‘stop and go’ lights.

The federal government is clearly gearing up for the likelihood of civil unrest on a scale that could outstrip what we’ve already seen in countries across Europe.

While the establishment demonizes the second amendment in light of recent mass shootings and legislation is prepared to ban the sale of large quantities of ammunition online [7], the federal government is acquiring ammunition at levels necessary to fight a full scale domestic war.

Me again.

About 15 years ago I had this conversation with a Northwest Air pilot who said he was handed the passenger manifest one day and found out that one of his passengers, some low-level Dept. of Education official was carrying a gun on board. His list showed him US Marshalls and everyone who was cleared by the feds to carry on planes.

His response to this was "What the fuck does a teacher need to carry a gun on board a US flight for?"

He said that he was noticing a distinct uptick in the numbers of these showing up on his flights from other federal agencies as well, none of whom you would consider "armed," but it happened during the Clinton years that cabinet-level officials were granted not only right to carry, but given powers of arrest as well.

Few years later we find out the Dept. of Education was buying up how many thousands of Remington (or was it mossberg?) military style shotguns and ammo.

This isn't a good sign, folks. It's a pattern which, historically, was followed by countries that devolved into despotic hellholes in short order. In 1934 the fascists took over the seat of gov't in Italy, and Benito Mussolini had so many small-caliber handguns made for his bureaucrats they can still be had today for just a few hundred dollars on the collector's market (e.g. - Beretta Modelo 1934). Similarly, the National Socialists armed their bureaucrats throughout the same decade while disarming the population in general. Those guns, being of slightly higher quality and pedigree, sell for considerably more (e.g. - Walther model P). Japan followed suit as did several other countries.

Hey, this isn't rocket science. Gun up while you can, it's going to get weird. Sooner than later, I think.

Re: National Weather Service needs ammo now?

The only reason I can think of, is they have their own security on the facilities instead of using local police or something. However I have no idea if that's true or not; but it's my logical guess.

I knew it, the Mayans were right!! Where the F*&K is my Tin Foil shower cap and gas mask?

Re: National Weather Service needs ammo now?

This was deliberately reported to be scaremongering, if you looks at the PO it clearly says OLE (NOAAs Office of Law Enforcement) and the addresses are the OLE offices. NWS has the purchasing officers the OLE does not, it doesn't mean that housewives buy match 7.62 ammo if your wife orders them online for you. Same concept.

Re: National Weather Service needs ammo now?

If they keep forcasting this crummy weather then they will probably need to defend themselves.

Re: National Weather Service needs ammo now?

It's the Hague convention on hollow points, not Geneva.

I dunno, strange, dept of education just bought a buttload of 12 guage shotguns.

You'd think we were getting ready for mar tial law or something.
