Im looking for a scope to put on .308. Been looking at night force and like the 5.5-22x56 and 8-32x56 with MOAR reticle. Heard some bad things about there customer service when it comes to getting a scope repaired or replaced. Several shops around here stopped carrying them. Also looking at leupold but could not find a reticle I like in stock anywhere. Any advise or personnel experience with night force. Looking to spend $2000 or less.

Re: Looking for new scope. 500-1000 yards

Check out the HDMR with the gap2 reticle. I think thesis one of the best reticles on the market right now. The scope is solid and reliable with great glass at a great price.
Another option is the elite tactical line 6-24 with gap 2 reticle. I have 3 of them and gave less than $1000 for all three. They are very nice for the money.

I'm holding out for the Razor EBR-2B, heard great things about the HDMR w/the gap2 from GA Precision. I wanted an illuminated reticle and ruled it out.

Re: Looking for new scope. 500-1000 yards

I love my SWFA SS 5-20x50HD. One thing to keep in mind with the Night Force is that with the exception of the F1 (3.5-15) all their scopes are Second Focal Plane which isnt a bad thing but may not be ideal if you plan to shoot tactical style competitions or anything like that (their FFP line may have expanded its been a few months since I looked).

Re: Looking for new scope. 500-1000 yards

That would be the first time I have ever heard anything bad about NF's customer service. If their customer service is not the best in the business, it is close to it. Dollar for dollar probably the best scopes on the market in my opinion.

Re: Looking for new scope. 500-1000 yards

I recently went through a similar decision, with a similar budget. I had it down to the IOR or a Vortex Razor. I ended up going with the IOR because I'm thinking they've worked through the problems you read about on the internet. The Vortex looked mighty fine but I'm concerned that the Raxor is pretty new.

I don't have it mounted up yet to try, but the IOR scope looks nice.

Re: Looking for new scope. 500-1000 yards

I've never had an issue with NF customer service. Reason being is that I've never had a negative issue with my 2 NF scopes.

Re: Looking for new scope. 500-1000 yards

Sold my NXS to go to FFP scope
huge IOR fan, think the 6-24 FFP maybe a best buy
however after talking to Scott @ lib optics

Razor 5-20 HD
luv it

Re: Looking for new scope. 500-1000 yards

You don't need 22x, or even close to 22x.

Re: Looking for new scope. 500-1000 yards

Will you be using this for competition or just out target shooting for fun? Graham is right you don't need that much magnification unless you just want it. You can't go wrong with NF. Their customer service has always been top notch for me.

Re: Looking for new scope. 500-1000 yards

I just received my Vortex PST 6x24x50 from CS Tactical. All I can say is wow. Been on the range several days and I have nothing to say but good things about this scope. I haven't put the batteries in since I don't need to illuminate the reticales just yet, but their warranty is second to none. The scope ran me a $1k and used a NF 20moa single piece high mount on a LR-308 DPMS w/ 24" bull barrel. I'd suggest at least looking at them.

Re: Looking for new scope. 500-1000 yards

This will be just for fun. Just shooting steel. I NEED the magnification because I am color blind and can not clearly make out target at distances without it. Once I spot it I can back it off. Not necessarily using high mag to shoot. More less just to spot. I shoot where there is a wooded background so it's harder for me to see targets than if it were a range setting.

Re: Looking for new scope. 500-1000 yards

I wouldn't worry about NF customer service. I'd also go for the higher magnification, unless you decide that you need a FFP reticle, but then you aren't looking at under $2K.

Re: Looking for new scope. 500-1000 yards

If I were you and in that price range, I would be looking at a sfp NightForce or the Vortex Razor. They both will be around your max budget. They are both great scope with great customer service.

+1 on the dmr g2.

I got one thinking if I don't like it I can go thru their bulletproof return policy and get my money back. But I ended up buying 2 of them.
