I have a daily carry that was really beat up looking and decided to cerakote it . I think it turned out good. I was looking at commanders on gunbroker today and there is one like this, within a thousand on the serial number range, original finish going for $1200.00
That seems real high to me.

What do ya'll think.

Re: Colt Commander 2 tone Cerakote

I love the 2 tone! Great choice on colors. The green really looks great with the black slide.

Re: Colt Commander 2 tone Cerakote

Thanks

I am really interested in any colt owners out there saying what they think of a stock Commander from late '70s selling for $1200.
I have not looked at or priced Colts in a long long time. That may be what they are going for now. I would think it would be worth about half that. If I did not like it so much I would sell this for $1200. My first Colt 1911 got cracks in the guide bad channel just in front of the feed ramp. They were microscopic. I personally shot more than 25,000 through that pistol. It looked brand new on the outside when I traded it to a friend who collects but does not shoot. The pistol above is 35 years old but does not have 2500 rounds through it. I quit shooting so much years ago.

What say you Colt men out three? Is $1200 too much for this pistol or not.

Re: Colt Commander 2 tone Cerakote

nice colt, I have two a Combat Commander and a Combat Government both enhanced by Novaks. Not exactly a matched set, but my matched set. I paid less than 600 for each in the 90's. I am still looking for a lightweight commander and something in 38 super. I love the Colts, but that Hogue needs to go I hate the rubber grips on the old war horse.

Re: Colt Commander 2 tone Cerakote

$1200 seems a litte high to me, I would think more around $700-$900 but that it just me and I am not looking for one right now to see what prices look like.

Re: Colt Commander 2 tone Cerakote

Nice Dave.
The 6-900$ range is what I was thinking would be an appropriate value for the pistol. If it is well cared for expect the upper end of that range.
I have shot many thousands of rounds with wood grips, and a lot of rounds with rubber. My only negative is weak side shooting. Molded grips are tough for that. But I can assure you that I can get a positive grip wet muddy or dry with that old hogue grip.

Re: Colt Commander 2 tone Cerakote

Those are disgusting.

And you need a hell of a lot more info to be able to accurately price out one.

There's a larger range of values for Colt 1911s than any other firearm model, by far.

I think it's AWESOME!!!! As others have said, OD/Black is a hard 2-tone to beat. I have a love of 2-tone firearms anyway.

Obviously whatever works for you to feel comfortable carrying, you must do. NO ONE can fault you for that. But, I agree with other poster, if it were my pistol (and it's not) I would see if I could find grip panels like Micarta/G10/wood that would feel comfortable to me. That is PURELY from a personal aesthetics perspective.

Very nice workhorse you have there! congrats! And it's still cheaper than plastic surgery for the girlfriend or wife!

+1 on the VZ grips. Like the color scheme too.

Re: Colt Commander 2 tone Cerakote

I picked up a series 70 lightweight commander a little over a month ago for $450. It was made around the same time frame as the one listed on gunbroker. The was a little bit of wear on the finish because it was carried but I didn't mind. If someone wants to give me $2k for it I will gladly sell it.

Re: Colt Commander 2 tone Cerakote

I really like the gun, grips, and especially the flat mainspring housing. You should consider trying a longer trigger though. I use a short trigger in my double stack, but in a single stack, I'd be really surprised if you didn't like the longer trigger better.
