I need a spotting scope that is decent that won't break the bank like my scope did. Mostly for spotting hits with rimfire and .223. Any recomendations.

Thanks for the link. I am hoping to stay in the 200-300 range for price.

FWIW, I really like my Bushnell Excursion FLP. It's a FFP spotting scope with mil-dot reticle.

I have been trying to buy one for the last 6 months. Every time I find one it has already be bought by someone else.

I have heard good things about the Konus spotting scope. The Highpower guys use them. This is more of an entry level spotter, may be perfect for your needs.

I either bought mine through SWFA or OpticsPlanet a couple years ago. Maybe Bushnell discontinued the model...

Re: Spotting scope that won't break the bank.

Two fellas bought Konus spotters that shoot with us at our 1000 yard matches. They were really better than I first expected, I liked the 80mm better than the 100mm. Both were very clear but the 80mm was more compact and lighter. We've found that 24-30 power is plenty if the glass is clear. Hits/misses and trace were easily visible even to 1000. I won't say they are as clear as my Kowa or Unertil but if I was looking for a spotter and just starting out I'd give the Konus hard consideration.

Whichever spotting scope you get buy the BEST tripod you can find, you don't want your scope shaking in a breeze.

I have a Redfield Rampage that I picked up for $225 that I am happy with. Pretty clear and comes with a padded case. Not the best out there but its always got the job done for me out to 600yds.

Cabelas and Bass Pro has them in stock usually.

I've owned a KONUS 20x60x80 for 5 years. Then it cost $140, and now they are $200 plus shipping. I highly recommend it, and would think it's a perfect fit for what you asked for.

Bushnell had some problems with some of them. Form what I understand they were working through the issues and looking at a mil hash reticle and then just scrapped the whole thing. There are a few new ones left out there but they are going for $500 now. Used ones are going for the original purchase price of $350 or so and are generally sold quickly.

I'm in the same boat as you. I was looking at the Bushnell Legend Ultra HD 20-60x80, but the review above turned me off to them.

For me, it's between the Konus 7120 20-60x80 and the Alpen 788 20-60x80. The Konus goes on sale at Midway for $200 pretty regularly. The Alpen is about $150 more, depending on retailer and if you buy the kit.

What's your bank account like?

I run a Vortex Viper HD spotter. Love it.

Only thing it lacks is a reticle eyepiece option. Maybe they'll dig their heads out soon?

Re: Spotting scope that won't break the bank.

i'll get a DDoptics spotting scope. not sure yet on the 60 or 70 objective, but i compared the Pirschler 15-45x60 at length yesterday evening and night with the Swaro 30x75. Three of us agreed that the clarity is on par with the Swaro. Might be that the DDoptics is a tiny bit darker, but we think this is rather due to the difference in objective diameter (60 vs 75) than anything else.

Considering that the Swaro costs 1k euro (here in Austria) compared to the DDoptics (which i can get from a local distributor) from about 450 euro, i don't see why i should get the old swaro design (extendable, heavy, open to the outside) vs the ddoptics (small, waterproof)
