Just got a Eotech XPS. Was thinking of having something engraved on the top of the hood like the American Flag.

I took it to "Things Remembered." They are located in mostly any big mall.

It goes to bare aluminum. Type 3 anodizing is a dark gray/black.

Yes, its below the anodizing. the shinyness you see is the aluminum. as far as it holding up, its a permanent thing. unless i ram the flag into a corner of a table or rock and damage it. then thats another story.. worst case scenario is, i buy a new "hood" for about $40. get another picture engraved on it.

The hood is just a shield to protect the optic. It can also be replaced. So it isn't a big deal.

I was thinking of putting something on the left side of the hood. Im not sure how to get the "eotech" word off the hood. I didnt wanna scratch it, so thats why I decided to use the top of the hood.
