Re: Eotech holographic site or Aimpoint T1 for SR-15
For me, it really wasn't a matter of what I prefered. It came down to what would work and keep on working. I've caught a bit of crap from others when I posted this, but I've owned no less than six Eotechs and I've killed them all.
Why did I buy so many? Because I was getting my son into shooting, he liked them and business was really good at the time, so I wasn't too worried about it. I'd buy one, when it broke, I'd send it in for repair and buy another so that I would't have to wait. I was admittedly using the cheap 511s and 512s.
When I got tired of replacing Eotechs, I just decided to stick with Aimpoints. I have one particular Aimpoint that is so old that it is anodized blue and has the piggy back battery adapter for running two batteries to make it brighter. Yes the old model has its shortcomings, but it still works.
Aimpoints are also more ergonomic. The elevation and windage adjustments are precise, the controls are idiot proof and the battery lasts forever. Well, it seems like it anyway.
If you just have to have the Eotech type of reticle, I'd recommend that you check out the ACOG TA44S-10. It's what I run now. It is arguably more reliable than an Aimpoint and has a reticle very similar to that of an Eotech.
