A friend of mine wants to trade me the Tikka for the Savage. Is this a good trade? The Tikka has the walnut stock and is blued. The Savage is a 243 and the Tikka is a 25-06.? Both are in good condition.

Re: Savage Model 10 Predator vs Tikka T3 Hunter

Money wise they close(The savage might actually cost a little more(

They are two totally different guns. Tikka is not a heavy barrel savage is.

Question is do you want the Tikka and not want the savage anymore

Re: Savage Model 10 Predator vs Tikka T3 Hunter

The Tikka he has is the Hunter model. The Hunter and the Savage are roughly in the same price range of about 650.00 plus tax. Almost every rifle I have is so heavy. I wanted something different and lighter. The deal started out with me pricing the rifle to him for 525.00 which is a really good deal. He had a Tikka he would trade me for it. I have been wanting a Tikka for a while but I held one at a shop the other day and was not all that impressed but after reading many positive things about the Brand I have decided I might give them another look. I am not really crazy about the 25-06 but I love the 243 so that is something to think about. I have been thinking about getting rid of the Savage for a while but I didn't really no what to get. I guess all I really wanted to know was for this rifle would it be a fair trade and will I be satisfied with the Tikka? I am going to go look at the rifle here sometime before lunch.

Re: Savage Model 10 Predator vs Tikka T3 Hunter

I used to have several Savages, extra barrels, barrel wrench, etc. I started using a Tikka 6.5x55 for hunting. I sold ALL of my Savage stuff, and now have the stock lightweight Tikka for hunting, and a heavy barrel one for target shooting. They are excellent rifles.

Either trade your friend and have it rebarrelled in your cartridge of choice, or sell your Savage outright and find a used Tikka in the right caliber. The one I used for the action was $475, came in the original box, and the guy had never shot it, as he won it in an auction. Keep looking, you will find a good deal on one.

Re: Savage Model 10 Predator vs Tikka T3 Hunter

I have a Tikka T3 .223 and a Savage 116 .270. I like the Savage better. The Tikka does not have a 3 position safety and my Savage does. The Tikka is a good shooter and has a good trigger, but due to the safety, I won't buy another. The Savage shoots 3/8" three shot groups with factory ammo, if I do my part and 3/4" groups if I am a little shaky. The Tikka shoots 3/4" groups with factory ammo if I do my part. I believe the Sako models have a different safety. I had problems with the Accu trigger when I had it adjusted to 1.75 lbs. When I increased it to 2 lbs, I never had another problem with it.

I contacted Savage for a heavier barrel for my 270, so I can thread it for a suppressor and they said I need to replace the Accu stock too. I asked how much installed? They said about $450. Where can you get a quality barrel installed let alone a stock for that price and be confident that it will shoot?

Re: Savage Model 10 Predator vs Tikka T3 Hunter

Changing barrels on savages are relatively easy and cheap to change barrels.

Re: Savage Model 10 Predator vs Tikka T3 Hunter

My vote is for Tikka. They will shoot and have a very smooth action. Most savages are great shooters as well, but they have a cheap feel in my opinion

Re: Savage Model 10 Predator vs Tikka T3 Hunter

I have never owned a Tikka, but have shot quite a few. I have owned many different rifles, from many different manufacturers. Without question, I will never be without a Savage rifle again... PERIOD.

I absolutely love my Savage. Great price, super reliable, awesome accuracy.

This to me just answered your question. YOU held it and YOU were not impressed! Why does it matter what other people say if YOU don't like it???

I am not really crazy about the 25-06 but I love the 243 so that is something to think about.

Why get something your not happy about? You love the .243 so keep it.

I guess all I really wanted to know was for this rifle would it be a fair trade and will I be satisfied with the Tikka?

No one can answer that but you!! Fair trade value wise sure... Fair trade as in both of you being happy? I don't think you will be happy.

So my vote is to keep the Savage! He knows your Savage is better.

Thanks for the replies. I traded for the Tikka. It is a very nice looking gun. Here is the savage I traded.

Here is also one of the Tikka. The scope on the Savage did not go but I let him have the EGW base.

You'll be very happy with the Tikka. I've owned Remington, Savage and a Badger M2008. The Tikka comes the closest to what the badger felt like.

Re: Savage Model 10 Predator vs Tikka T3 Hunter

i think you did fine.....the Tikka will shoot

Re: Savage Model 10 Predator vs Tikka T3 Hunter

You're gonna like that Tikka. Only Savage I have is my gramps old model 99 in 300 Savage. Not a big fan of their bolt guns, although I know that they will shoot and many swear by them.

Re: Savage Model 10 Predator vs Tikka T3 Hunter

I shot the rifle before I bought it and the 3 shot group was about an inch at 100 yards with Federal Fusion. I have ordered Forster benchrest micrometer dies, 80gr Barnes ttsx, 100gr Nosler ballistic tips and Winchester brass. I also ordered an EGW HD 0 MOA base. I will mount a Weaver grandslam tactical on there for now with Leupold PRW rings. I would rather buy another Trijicon for it but I got to plant green fields soon. I will report back when I find a load it likes. I have been outside this morning working the bolt over and over and I sure do like it. I also adjusted the trigger from 3.5lbs to just under 2lbs. There is no need to replace the trigger on this rifle.
