Paul... I've been to NJ...

I don't "think" the state violates rights, I know it does... in fact, every state does, and so does the federal government...

and that's my point... ore trained is NOT better trained... trained to avoid a lawsuit is NOT better trained...

and we, as a society, are too comfortable with our rights being violated, LE specifically is WAY to comfortable with it (IMHO)

and it's not limited to firearms, not by a long shot, that's just what's relevant to this particular forum.

ANY law that's passed for "the public good" is going to violate someone's rights... can't yell fire in a crowded theater, violates free speech, but the benefit to the public out weighs the infringement on person rights...

but then we have things like seat belt laws, they're SOLD to us as "for the public good", but where's the victim?... smoking laws, can't smoke in public, ok I'll give you that, no reason Jim Bob should have to breath second hand smoke, but how is it legal that a restaurant owner can't decide that his whole restaurant is smoking (Oklahoma doesn't allow that, NJ might)...

how can any business owner not make similar choices in a "free" market... don't want to hire women... cool... hopefully the women in the area boycott you, get their husbands, brother, father, etc to boycott you too and drive your dumbass out of business, but it's none of the government's business... same with minorities, unions, pay, etc,etc...

in a LOT of people's opinion, the government, local, county, state, and federal are over reaching, with laws, with their interpretation of laws, with things that aren't even law ( for example, the law, in most places I know of, says that a citizen can make an arrest for any misdemeanor committed in their presence, or any felony which they reasonably believe has been committed, or close to that, yet I've watched LEOs tell a person the can't make a citizen's arrest, watched DAs and brass agree, then a week later they tell a store owner that caught a shoplifter that the store owner or employee has to sign the affidavit of arrest... so how can they be require to make the arrest for shoplifting or trespassing , but prohibited in say an assault case?

the system is broken, very broken, you're part of the system so you're gonna take some shit... but the BIG thing is that you defend the system, so you're gonna take a HUGE pile of shit

this is why LEOs today get compared to Nazis... the "I was just following orders/the law" defense... in Germany the Nazis were resisted greatly at first, but eventually everyone, almost, got used to the "law"... some of us fear that the American public is getting too used to government misconduct... the electoral process is failing to deal with this apparently, so many people also fear that LE and military will be the deciding factory again at some point

I understand where you are coming from, but we pretty much feel the same way that you guys do. And I don't hide behind the "I'm just following orders crap", but there are some officers that do, unfortunately.

As far as the shoplifting example, I know how we handle it where I work and the most frustrating thing for us is how often they change the laws, depending on who makes a big stink.

No, it just makes you an asshole with a nice rifle.

Was there a point to your post, or are you still trying to imply that Kraig wasn't a LEO?

I'd take a guy like Kraig watching my back over a cowboy like you anyday, and bet the forum would agree with that assessment.

Go back and learn from a guy with some wisdom and experience, something you clearly lack.

When you're violating the rights of young Blacks and Latinos, does it make you feel proud to be NYPD?

I'm certainly not a cop hater, but I for one, in some ways would like to see policing to go back in time.

Back when cops looked like cops instead of some sort of para-military outfit. Back when cops were on the street interacting with citizens. Showing the public we are human and compassionet as are the people we police.

Back when kids needed help they run to cops not away from them.

Back before the black military combat uniforms, back to where we wore ties (clip on of course) and back before tasers,

Yes I said it, back when we had to result to police work and people skills instead of tasers and pepper spray.

Never worked with tasers but they gave us pepper spray. I never used it but I got it used on me by other cops in scuffles. I bet more cops go pepper sprayed then bandits.

I may have been a shitty cop, because I did choose what laws I inforced and what I didn't. We didn't have CCW permits in Alaska when I worked there. But in my 20 years I never charged any one with the possission of a firearm unless there was another crime involved, then it was for the crime itself, not the gun. (This excludes possission of a stolen firearm, The constitution doesn't guarantee your right to steel firearms.

Hell I got into a pissing contest with IRS because I refused to help them serve a "admimistrative" warrant, You know, the presigned copy where you fill in the name and address, NOT signed by a judge.

I retired in '94, it was getting bad then but I don't think I could work as a cop today.

I know I'm just a dumb ass has been but one thing I did, and still do is take any oath I take seriously, be it LE or Military.</div></div>

Great post!!!! Thanks.

Never said anything about covering ANYTHING up. In fact it came out right away that the wounded were hurt as a result of police gunfire. No one is trying to hide that. But who the fuck are you, with your limited experience to 2nd guess and critique street cops? How long did you work on the street? My guess is not long at all. I reckon like I said before that you were an inside guy your whole career.

You might know how to shoot straight but you know shit about what it is to be a street cop.

</div></div>I lost interest in this discussion because it has gotten so far off topic. What is highlighted above is the most relevant, perhaps the only relevant, statement in some time.

So the total sum of what Ive taken from this thread is

1-The two cops who wounded 9 bystanders did what they had to do, but were so poorly trained they were a hazard.
2-NYC is gonna get hit for millions because of it.
3-Mayor Boomberg's penis is really stiff dreaming how he can use this to usurp gun rights.
4-Slap doesnt know when to quit.
