Suppressors Sparrow mated to....?

Re: Sparrow mated to....?

if you want tacticool, m&p22. if not, p22. if you want to spend some cash, ruger sr-22. i like the sig mosquito but hear terrible things about it.

Re: Sparrow mated to....?

If you want a reliable, proven design, it is hard to go wrong with a Ruger MkII/III. Here is my daughter's MKIII 22/45. This thing is a blast to shoot and cycles reliably with subsonic rounds. I plan on doing a full Volquartsen kit and Sam Lam bushing on it for her 10th B-day in a couple months.

Re: Sparrow mated to....?

Thanks rbdub474. I am a Glock enthusiast, but my Ciener rimfire conversion kit is the epitome of unreliability. Asking around, with fair consistency I hear that the SIG Mosquito and the Walther P22 are very finicky about ammo, so that scratches them. As you so kindly suggested, I have given some thought to Ruger's 22/45 and Mk III. I balked at that for two reasons: (1) Ruger's alleged role in Clinton's AW ban and (2) The 22/45 controls are more similar to the Mark III than a 1911. That put me on the trail of the Browning 1911-22 A1 which has controls more akin to the 1911.

What else is there? Any opinions on the S&W M&P22? reliable or finicky? threaded barrels available? Since it is a striker action, it is appealing to help my kids transition to the Glocks.

The combo is meant mostly to help train my little ones in the skills they need before graduating to other family heirlooms—and for family fun.

I examined one at the store today. The salesman said they were new enough that so far he had no feedback regarding reliability. Interesting that it is manufactured for S&W by Walther. The grip is not too much of a stretch for my kids' hands. Interesting to me, it seems a bit of a hybrid—Glock-like trigger and striker, 1991-like safety. The salesman didn't know if any threaded barrels are available for it. So far it looks like an adapter may be necessary, not a very elegant solution. What makes it tacticool?

Re: Sparrow mated to....?

I have 4 separate 22lr pistols that I currently run with my Sparrow unit , Sig 1911, Sig Mosquito,Ruger Charger set up with a Tactical Solutions match barrel and my favorite a Ruger Mk.2 .Also run one of my Colt 1911's with a Kimber 22lr conversion uppers. All of them run like a dream with the Sparrow , YES, even the Mosquito runs like a champ with the Sparrow on it. It really is a matter of personal choice as to what type or style of platform you are looking for or are familiar with . In my experience the Sparrow isn't TOO! picky as to what system it is placed on. It also runs well on several rifle systems, but that's a whole other topic. Good luck with choices, try several as 22lr's are a lot cheaper than their centerfire siblings.

Good to hear!

I must say I am drawn to the M&P22 because of its striker/trigger's similarity to the Glock. Of course, a preliminary internet search found only a Gemtech adapter to a mentioned M8x.75 threaded factory barrel. A custom barrel seems a more elegant solution.

Re: Sparrow mated to....?

the M&P 22 = P22+M&... atleast the barrels are the same. without being able to open one up i cant say if the triggers are the same. my wifes p22 eats anything that has dry lube on it. wet silicone (most match grade) doesnt do so hot. just feed it bulk pack or CCI minimags and it will do fine.

Re: Sparrow mated to....?

FWIW, my SIG/Sparrow runs fine with whatever 22 ammo I found in my ammo box. Plenty of Remington Golden Bullet bulk w/ and w/o the can sent downrange without issue.
