Re: A barrel nut converson R700 in a AICS???

Not to be rude but why would you change your R700 to take a barrel nut?

Re: A barrel nut converson R700 in a AICS???

because its my gun... why ask questions that don't concern you. Does it really matter either way considering the gun is shooting bugholes. Considering I have the tools to do what I have to to the barrel and action I dont have to have a machinist being the action is trued. If I want to go to a new barrel I can do it with a headspace gauge.

Re: A barrel nut converson R700 in a AICS???

I have an AICS and I want to say it should clear, the barrel channel is wide enough to take the over the barrel suppressor from AI's covert line. Also would you mind posting some pics of your setup, it sounds pretty intriguing.

Wow, that isn't they way to speak to anyone. He simply asked a question and you took it as a personal attack? With an attitude such as the one you have demonstrated with this post, do you expect any support to come from this community?

In the future I suggest that you proof read what you wrote prior to posting. Not only do you look like an ass....but an un-educated one as well.

This community has much knowledge to offer, treat it and the members of it with the respect.

P.S. if you claim that you're a machinist, why worry if it fits? You make it fit if that is what you desire.

Re: A barrel nut converson R700 in a AICS???

No it doesn,t concern me I was just asking why, didn,t mean to piss you off, also you don,t to be a machinist to ree barrel a Remmy just get a good smith to set uo chamber the barrel wanted get a barrel vise and action wrencg and have at it all you need is a no go and a go guage. if im not mistaken don,t you need one to properly seat the barrel anyway.

Re: A barrel nut converson R700 in a AICS???

whatever hertz never said I was a machinist but ok simple question is all i asked and he came outa no where to ask a question I ASSUMED he was knocking me for using a nut considering I get it all the time.

Don't think it was your initial question but your response to a response to your initial question.

Does sound like an interesting idea, we are shooting Savages and have never found having a barrel nut holding things in place being any type of a problem with accuracy. Like someone else mentioned should not be hard to open up enough space for it to fit and look like was supposed to be there from the factory.

Re: A barrel nut converson R700 in a AICS???

Thanks you for the answer topstrap. I figured it wouldnt probably take much if it doesnt fit so I am gonna snag an AICS and go with it.

Nope, some tape and a case works perfect!

OP please post pics when you get it done!

Re: A barrel nut converson R700 in a AICS???

I haven,t used the tape on a case yet, but I would also like to see how this comes out with some pics of course.

Re: A barrel nut converson R700 in a AICS???

JW not sure if you are actually inquiring on the tape method or a smith ready to call someone out.

The tape HS is a poor way to create a makeshift HS guage. Masking tape is .004 in thickness and most new unsized cases are .002 under saami spec. So in theory the new case would be used as a go gauge and a case with two pieces of tape would be used as the no-go guage. I have a real set of guages and the difference is .006. So a new case (-.002) + two pieces of tape (.008) = .006.

The only problem with this method is steel will not crush and tape will. For a no-go the bolt can go all the way down to 90 something percent before you meet resistance and it will be good, With the tape you cant be sure as you will be crushing and compressing the tape as you close the bolt.

The only time I would use the tape method is if I was out of town buying a milsurp and did not bring my HS guages. I certainly would not fit a bbl with one.

Re: A barrel nut converson R700 in a AICS???

im not a smith with intentions of ball busting...

just curious as i am tossing the idea areound about having my smith chamber a couple barrels for me and buy the gear to swap them myself...

I was thinking more on the lines of having my smith etch an indexing line on the bottom of my receiver and just headspace my barrels and mark a line on the barrel ligning it up with the line on the receiver...

savy? or will this not work?
