I don't think you need that comparator thing to accomplish your mission... Realistically, you don't care how far your ogive is from your lands, what you care about is that the bullet winds up at the same place consistently when you do everything the same. The comparator isn't going to tell you anything about what seating depth will do that, only loading different seating depths and shooting them will.
I guess maybe, the comparator will allow you to mess with your die, and set it back to the same exact position a bit more precisely? But for that, I'd guess that measuring to the tip is going to be close enough.
*caveat, I'm new to reloading, but my loads are good enough to get me hits at 1k, which is all I really need out of them.
