I am looking to purchase a range finder for hunting. I need one that will consistently peg animals out to 1000 yds. I was looking at the Leica 1600 but it is a bit out of my price range. Any cheaper alternatives that will do the job?

Re: Range Finder

Paul, I am on the same search and every corner, every review all point back to Leica, Ziess, and Swaro. So many of the cheaper LRF's state they will range Deer sized game out to 600 800 1000, but if you check the reviews BS is called on all of them, Leupy, Bushnell, Vortex, Nikon.

I'm looking to range speed goats out to 600, so the CRF 1000 is on my next to buy list.

I contacted Leica about their real world and here was their response "<span style="font-style: italic">Generally our rangefinders can get a reading on deer sized game out to at least three quarters of the maximum rated distance. A CRF 1000 then should have no trouble ranging such targets at 500-600 yards unless conditions are poor."</span>

If someone has ranged actual game or even cattle out to long distances I would like to know as well.

Re: Range Finder

I know the Leica is pricy, but I have a 1600 and really like it. Compact, lightweight, and easy to use. I have routinely ranged to 1000-12000y with no problems. No substitute for quality.

Re: Range Finder

I have the Zeiss Victory PRF that's rated at 1300 yards. I ranged elk at about 1200 yards last fall. My longest range was a rock face on a canyon wall at about 1500 yards. The nice thing is that it doesnt struggle to get the readings.
