I have a Savage 110 .338 Lapua that will not group and now it just goes click when you pull the trigger. When I purchased the rifle I topped it with a new mark4 and bought 2 boxes each of Black hills, Horady, HSM, and PPU. I was eager to get out and see what it would do. So I slapped on the scope and headed to my range. The rifle would not do better than a 10" group at 100yd with either brand of ammo and the only brand that did not require a cleaning rod to extract the brass was Black Hills. I fiqured that the action screws could be loose so I headed back to the house. Turns out every screw on the rifle was less than finger tight. aaaaha thats gotta be the problem went back to the range and same thing. So I swapped my other mk4 on to see if that was the problem. Nope shot two 5 shot groups that measured 10" plus and then the damn thing just goes click. 8 faliure to fires later I threw in the towel. After bieng on hold for 45 min with Savage I managed to interpret from the guy that didnt speak english to send it in. I hope they stand behind their product what a let down!

as surgeon says they will. once again another problem with the .338. i have the same rifle in .300 and have had no problems at all. one thing i have come to find is that atleast the hornady brass is way to soft for this rifle atleast in 338 my 300 performs very well with anything i run in it so far. good luck and let us know how this turns out.

I've heard some stories about the savage rifles in .338 lapua as well. I know the hornady brass is a little softer than the others but most rifles handle it fine. I've got 7 or more firings on quite a bit of it in my Desert Tactical SRS with no issues. I've fired Lapua, Hornady, Privi and Norma brass in the rifle and no problems with any of it. Friends with SAKO rifles are shooting my ammo as well and having no issues. If the savage rifles have issues with hornady brass its a problem with the rifle...not the brass. Send it back.

You do have something amiss with the BA, at 100 yards you should be shooting moa at least with the Honady. It is true about the brass, LAPUA only for reloading. I have reloaded the Horandy 3 times, then the stick. In hotter temps, the Hornady brass is junk and will stick after the first reload.

I would say the Hornady brass sticking would be the only known problem with these. I have shot several ~0.25MOA groups with mine at 200yds. This has mainly been load development and have not stretched it to much further yet.

I have a savage 110 FCP in .338 and I had the same problem with the Hornady brass. I bought Norma brass for 200 bucks per hundred and haven't had a problem since. Accuracy has been good to great with 300gr berger OTM bullets. Even with the junk Hornady brass that sticks every shot accuracy was acceptable. I would guess that you have a additional problem with rifle that's hurting your accuracy and the case problem is something different all together. Also I've had numerous people respond to my post on this issue over at long range hunting that said they had their chambers polished and in most cases this stopped the sticking even with Hornady ammo. Hope this helps!

Seems like Savage dropped the ball on this rifle. I heard that alot of people were having problems with brass sticking. Am I the only one that got one that shoots 12moa, with action screws that were backed off and then a firing pin that fails to strike the primer?

Just a thought but could the barrel nut be loose? Not a gunsmith or anything but that could account for most of the problems.

Sorry for your problems, mine shootsn.5 moa and I bang the mile target with ease. I have no problems when I use Lapua brass! It's a winner in my book.

I have a new Savage as well in 338. I've only put about 40 rounds downrange, and I used Sellier&Bellot. No problems firing, just 2 rounds didn't want to chamber, but I ended up throwing a bit of lube on the bolt(dry as a bone) and it was smooth as silk. I had no problems with decent grouping once I got the scope zero'd, even though the scope is a POS so now I have a SWFA SS in the mail.
I will check the screws and stuff just to be sure before I fire again.
So far I love it, just wished I could have fired more, but one month out of shoulder surgery keeps my rounds to a minumum

Sounds like you have something major going on. I had a couple issues with my savage (111, not the110), but nothing like what you're seeing.
1) bolt wouldn't close on a live round: sent it in & had it back in 10 days- wrong screw in the rail. Easy fix once they figured it out.
2) 2"-3" groups at 100: retorqued all screws, relieved barrel channel, and epoxy bedded a couple carbon arrow shaft sections in forend. Now it shoots .5 moa or better most days (can't say the same for me).
I've only shot lapua brass and can't see any reason to try anything else after seeing the way it shoots. Try some 300smk's from SW ammo or Dallas Reloads with lapua brass when you get it back, I'll bet it shoots great.

That was straight from fedex they only ship Fire Arms priority. I repacked the rifle in the original box as Savage requested. I bought the rifle at Cabelas in Buda tx and I live in Anson tx its a little bit of a drive.

I checked mine out. The only piece loose was the top rail. I just pulled it off cleaned it up and tightened back down.

a) rifle shoots 10 moa or worse,...shooter's old Remington/Winchester never shot that bad
b) backup claim by another poster that's what Savages do
c) takes exorbitant amounts to ship rifle back to Savage. Far more than any of us have ever paid buying or selling rifles on this site or through an auction.
d) offhand mention of <span style="text-decoration: underline">_Brand-XX_</span> brass possibly being the fault (never seen bad brass cause that bad of a group, even stuff that came apart!)
e) doesn't have too much to say when members offer the straight forward approach to solving the problem, i.e. "Take it back to Cabelas." Cabela's is really strong on reputation and they will take care of the problem for you. They will most likely work with Savage to fix it or get you a new one.

I had a love-hate relationship with my first rifle, a Rem 700 in .243. Looking back on it, I wish I still had it. My most accurate rifle ever, was a Win 70 in .222 Rem.
But, all that said, I come on here and can't believe some of the posts I see about Savages shooting over the hill bad. The thing would sound a lot more legit to me if you bought one of their model 10LE, or 12's and the thing shot 2" and no better. At 10" groups you should be able to feel the barrel about to fall out.

Ups needs to address this with all their locations and I am sure fed ex does too.

For shipping go to your nearest FFL and he will probably have a rifle box that your savage box will fit into.
