Figured I would throw up a post about my first long range gun build.

This thing started out as a factory Remington 700 Sendero .300 Ultra Mag. It was my dad's gun. He always used to talk about how the gun (with a few mods) could be made to shoot a mile. I know there are better platforms to accomplish this feat with, but for sentimental value I decided to make his old gun do what he always said it could.

Started off getting a Bell Carlson Tactical stock. Had it bedded and got an AICS bottom metal with a modified 338 mag. Next up was a monster brake (it needed it!)

Next up is a good optic (Thinking about a Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x56 mil dot) and a good bi-pod.

I haven't found many similar builds (.300 RUM anyways), so I was looking to see if anyone had any insight on anything I am missing, or any suggesttions.

Sorry about the crappy quality pic:

It will reach the mile. Shooting 200+ grain match bullets should yield good results. The nxs 5.5x22 is a good optic too because of 100 moa adjustment. Make sure to get a 20moa base atleast. Good luck.

Re: 700 .300 RUM build

I am building or rebuilding a R700 Sendero II 300 RUM. Ordered the stock the other night, a McMillan A5 fully glassed to get the weight up on the gun. Have a NightForce 40 MOA base coming with a pair of Max 50 Badger rings. I am going to run the Surgeon bottom metal & the NF 5.5-22x56 optics because of the large internal adjustment. According to what I have read, the tilt should not exceed half of the internal adjustment. In this case, half of the internal adjustment is 50. Why, I don't know, just what I have been reading. Having the action trued, muzzle break, and a custom bolt knob installed once the stock gets here. I am hoping, with the fully glassed stock and the heavy accessories, I'll have a gun that will push the 20 lb mark. If I am lucky, I can get over 20 lbs without going to a Krieger 26" #10 M.T.U. I have a Timney trigger for it.

I am going to run the 230 gr Berger Hybrid VLD's.

I talked to Wade over at Surgeon and they are going to build my mags for the 300 RUM.
