Have a new iphone and need a cover. Who makes a good cover and where are they available?

Thanks

Re: i phone cover

It depends what you want. If you just want something colorful you can get anything from Walmart, Target, etc. If you're looking for something with a little more protection you can get a LifeProof, Ottebox, Ballistic, Griffin. Take your pick. The LifeSouth is the only one that is certified waterproof.

Re: i phone cover

I saw one sometime back and can't really remember where, it looked basically bullet proof, cound take a decent hit if dropped, etc. I'll take a look at those you mentioned and see what they look like. Thanks

Re: i phone cover

Magpul makes a nice cover for 9.95. I've used it for over a year. Lifeproof makes a great cover that, like Mike said, is waterproof but expensive. IMO, it seems inconvenient for daily use. I filmed my children finding shells underwater at the beach.

Re: i phone cover

Otterbox, I got one from http://gadgetdash.com/ last week to replace my other Otterbox because I got tired of the color.Comes in a plastic bag but was IDENTICAL INSIDE AND OUT to the one I payed over $50 for.

Re: i phone cover

I'd say it depends on what you want. Personally i can't stand the feeling of a bulky case like an Otterbox in my pocket. I've been using the Magpul case for a while now and love it. It gives the phone some drop protection yet doesn't feel like a beer can in my pocket.

One thing I have learned though, no matter what the case if you drop an iPhone and it lands on a corner hard enough it will crack.

Re: i phone cover

I have Otterbox Defender series cases/covers on all my smartphone/PDA/iPad type devices and they are top-notch and readily available online and from a host of major retailers. Many cell places carry the Defender cases for mainstream phones like your iPhone, as do places like Radio Shack, Best Buy, etc.

Re: i phone cover

Just recovered a stolen I-pod and I know my daughter dropped it, on stairs - someone else found it and we tracked it down over the internet and found them.

For $20 I got new glass for it, watched a U-tube vid on how to replace it.

That said, a guy next door has a rubberized container on his, friggin fantastic, but it sticks out 1/2" or so.

Daughter had a SkullCandy cover, just as crappy as the $15 cover I just bought - works once....after the drop you replace it.

Re: i phone cover

I agree with sleepymonkey. Otterboxes are just to bulky for me and the rubber always clungs to the pocket of my work pants and it was a pain to get it out. I tried a couple other wal-mart cases some were better than others. I got a magpul about 8 months ago or so and it's not left it. It's thin and doesn't have any tack to it. I do keep a screen protector on it too, however.

Re: i phone cover

The LifeProof case is my favorite. It can take a good beating and is extremely low-profile. They claim that it is waterproof up to a depth of 6ft. My phone met an early demise in a wet pocket.... I'd submerged it before and did all of the B.S. leak testing that they recommend. It never showed any signs of leaking and I took it swimming on more than one occasion. One day, I stuck it in the pocket of my wet swim trunks and that did it in. One of the Gore-Tex speaker covers failed and allowed moisture to accumulate in the phone. After that experience, I can not recommend the LifeProof case to someone that intentionally wets their phone, but for the person that might accidentally drop it in a bucket of water once in a blue moon it is a great case.

Re: i phone cover

I have the Lifeproof case and the charging dock latch broke, I emailed LIFEPROOF and they have shipped me a new back for the case without any hesitation. I have had mine for some time, and it is the best case I have seen. I don't think I would take it swimming even though it says it can go to 6 ft. but for an everyday bumps bangs, drops, and spills its a great case.

Re: i phone cover

im a carpenter, and my phone lives in my pocket at work. The magpul case plus a quality screen protecter have been perfect. i also take it snowboarding a ton, and the phone has survived well over a year. the magpul case is inexpensive, made in america, easy to get out of your pocket, slim, and matches my p mags.

Re: i phone cover

Have taken underwater videos with Lifeproof case. I know of about 8 other people with Lifeproof that have not had problems. One person had a latch break.

Although they are probably more drop proof, I can't stand Otterbox cases. They are not waterproof, the tacky rubber is difficult to remove from your pocket, they are bulky, and using the buttons and ports on the phone is inconvenient. The Lifeproof solves all of these problems. The only thing I recommend with the Lifeproof is to take some adhesive backed foam and stick it on the back of the case. It's about 89 cents a sheet at Hobby Lobby. It keeps the phone from sliding around in your car or wherever you set it on a slick surface.

Re: i phone cover

I've got a lifeproof case, and otterbox case, and about a dozen other cases. I personally don't use any of them. It's $25 for a screen kit and takes 30 minutes to change out. I can get 3 screens for the price of the lifeproof case and I can pick the color I want at the time (right now it's camo)

As others have said the otterbox is BIG and bulky in your pocket. It also pulls everything out of your pocket when you pull it out. It is very protective and I use one hiking or climbing as I think it's the best bet on a good hard drop.

The lifeproof case is nice for the beach but I have bad hearing and it diminishes the sound quality. Both the ringer and ear piece are much quieter. I find a lot of missed calls on my phone when I use it. I do use it when I go to the beach or lake or kayaking and as long as I keep the seals greased it works great. It does offer some decent drop protection but not like an otterbox.

Never used the magpul case but I've used and broken a lot of slip on cases. Any of them with the rubber insert covered by a hard shell will give you decent protection. They tend to break when they are dropped (depending on who made them) but protect the phone.

No matter what case you use, the phone can be broken. The bigger the case the better chances it has but they all break. I repair iPhones for beer money(10+ repairs a day)and I see people all the time with expensive cases mad that they broke it.

Also an added note from a repair person, The enclosed cases screw up the phone's battery and other components. They trap the heat when it's charging and melt the battery and foam inserts around the sensors/camera. It's not something that happens overnight but it does take a toll on everything over time.
