I have a DPMS LR-308 Classic with the A2 front sight. I have tried to contact JP Enterprises but I cannot get any response.

I am looking to hear how difficult the installation of this handguard is. I do not feel comfortable removing the A2 Front Sight by myself. Is this something I can do myself or does it require a gunsmith? It says you need to start with a stripped upper and I am not exactly sure what this means.

Also, I would be very interested in any reviews, experiences, etc anyone is willing to offer.

They are fairly easy to install and straight forward. As far as getting the A2 sight off it can be tricky at times but it should have two tapered pins that will only come out in one direction. Pop those out along with taking the factory handguard off and the sight should slide off. It may need some persuading with a deadblow mallet on the slanted part of the sight though.

You have to punch them out or drill them out.
I had to drill them out on a CMMG barrel once ~ they were a bear.
After that everything is easy.

I was able to do it myself. The pins in the front sight came out a lot easier than I thought they would. Generally, I believe that it is recommended to replace the pins when assembling. I think that I got replacements and spares easily from Midway USA, but other companies and DPMS should have them too.

I installed the JP handguard on my LR308 carbine coming with the same front sight. Second time was a breeze for the sight. The handguard is really nice. I think I read the instructions fifty times just to be sure. It is different than the railed free float tube from DPMS. After torquing down the barrel nut, I did need to use a Dremel to take a little material off the nut so that the gas tube would clear everything. JP gives a variation on the torque for the nut, and I tried to see if some of the different torques would help, but it didn't make enough of a difference for my assembly.
