How many rounds untill clean?

How many rounds do you typically shoot before you strip and clean your barrel of carbon and copper?

The past few range trips I thought I was having "bad days". Struggling to keep MOA. Then I realized that I haven't "cleaned" my barrel in just over 550 rounds. I would only bore snake after each range trip. I confirmed this number with a few other reputable people. Typically accuracy loss is noticed at the 500 to 750 round mark. I'm curious to see what number you guys start to notice your groups open up?

I have forbidden myself to clean my .300 any more often than oncer per 100 rounds. It's hard for me not to clean more often but I certainly haven't seen any accuracy problems one way or the other.

I have an SPS in 22/250 that is more particular. It doesn't like being clean. I haven't put more than 200 through it without at least knocking out a little copper. I have to say though that the dirtier it gets the better it shoots. Rough barrel I suppose.

Maybe someday I'll grow a pair and push the .300 like you have.

Friend of mine had a customized remy and it wasnt very accurate. I pushed a bras jag with some shooters choice through it and 9 patches came out green. NINE! I'd never seen that before. He had never cleaned it and the 1st trip back to the range it shot very nicely. He said he thinks he had a few hundred rounds through it, many of which were suppressed.

I rarely take my gun out w/out shooting a hundred rounds through it, and I'm probably cleaning it every 3rd trip and it's consistently accurate.

I'll never get the whole "I dont clean" thing.. never.

Is there a difference between cleaning the fouling/carbon out versus really getting in there and going after the copper?

I saw a post by Dave Tooley where he talked about cleaning. I gathered he felt pretty strongly that leaving carbon in the barrel is pretty detrimental to barrel life. Because of this I tend to clean the carbon out ( using Bore Tech Carbon C4 ) fairly frequently. I seldom clean copper.

At the least, I'll run a boresnake through the barrel. but once you start running the brush and wipes down the tube, you may as well clean up the bolt and give the rest of the inside a quick wipe.

Me, I'll give it a full cleaning after 200-300rds. I always clean pistols after each shooting though.

I shoot a lot with pistols and I never clean the bore, never. Ive probably had pistols with 30,000 (jacketed) rounds through them without the bore being touched. I clean the rest though.

I don't clean them for function. I'm confident that they would be GTG after a day at the range. I do it to kep them in good shape. No gun us safe from a listing once I have my eyes set on something else, especially handguns.

I clean mine after every shoot, normally I fire 60 to 100 rounds.
