New FN A3G range results

Finally shot my new FN A3G today. Scope was a new Leupold Mark 4 ER/T 6.5-20x50mm, 30mm tube, M5 turrets, TMR reticle.

I'm a AR carbine guy and this was actually the first time in my life I ever shot a bolt action rifle, so I was not expecting much.

It started to rain about 30 minutes after we got to the range so I only was able to get it on the paper and shoot a couple 3 shot groups but I was pretty happy with the groups. This was the best of the two 3 shot groups but the other was only a little bigger. I'll attribute that to excitment from the first group. Kind of hard to get a measurement on this group because the target is one of those with the coating that blows off to make the hole more visible but the 3 holes are overlapping.

They all look the same but come on...who doesn't enjoy the porn

we need pics of the rifle.

She seems to be one of the good ones, congratulations!

Re: New FN A3G range results

What is the trigger pull like on that rifle. My buddy has a SPR with a trigger pull that feels like all of 8lbs!

What ammo did you shoot?

Was shooting Federal Gold Medal Match 168gr BTHP

The A3G trigger did feel heavy compared to the Geissele SSA's i run in my AR's.

Not sure what I could do about the A3G trigger. Probably not any aftermarker triggers for the A3G

Re: New FN A3G range results

I was told that they are adjustable in the same fashion as the Winchester M70 triggers. And there are replacements available for them as well.

My friend has not gotten around to do anything with his as yet but he is getting better with it!

You can adjust your trigger to ~2.5lb.

You can get ~1.5lb by replacing the spring and adjusting.

You can get a Jewell...the Win70 one fits

You can get an xtreme trigger. The win70 one ALMOST fits, but they make one specific for the SPR.

This is the same A3G in the thread about the rail being way off level front to back from the factory. I bought another rail and same thing. Rail would be level with either end screwed down but when you tightened the opposite end down the rail would twist and be out of level front to back. I probably could have taken the difference out by lapping the rings but I decided to bed the rail instead.

I bedded the rail with JB Weld and it's now perfectly level front to back. The photos make it look like the rail is actually JB welded to the action but it's not, it's just fits so perfectly it looks that way.

You say the the Jewell Win 70 fits. So no inletting, drilling? Is the install something I could do myself without any special tools? Does the Jewell trigger have a safety?

Guess I left a few particulars out in regard to the Jewell.

It fits the action no problem. It does not fit the stock and triggerguard without some clearancing.

The clearance necessary can be done with a Dremel and a couple of sanding drums, though for it to come out looking really sweet, someone with a mill really oughtta do it.

Re: New FN A3G range results

Ooof. I have the same rifle and I can't do that. Drop in the 100 shot-out thread and shoot a target. I am personally pulling for you.

Re: New FN A3G range results

I also have an FN SPR. I would try to adjust the trigger down, its pretty easy to do. Just google Win 70 trigger adjustment and you should GTG. It makes quite a bit of difference. The SPR is adjusted pretty heavy from the factory. You should be able to get it down to 2.5 lbs. just by backing off the nut.

Kind regards,
Jared

Re: New FN A3G range results

I have a 20"308 TSR. Shoots fantastic.
I can just imagine how nice your rifle is ........
I would hang onto her.

I have a CG-Xtreme trigger on my SPR and it is absolutely incredible. It is a 2 stage trigger that is as smooth as silk and breaks like glass. it will transform your rifle.

I looked at those at Perry 2 years ago. They are nice.

Yes, it is adjustable. There is a glob of gunk on it to keep it set. As I recall I removed that and backed the nuts out slowly. Then re-gooked it.

Re: New FN A3G range results

Yeah the trigger on the AN A3G is pretty bad.

I guess I'm spoiled by the 2-stage Geissele SSA's triggers I have on my AR's. I just don't think I will ever be happy with a single stage trigger again.

I'm considering the X-treme 2 stage but I emailed the company and they didn't know if it was a drop-in fit for the A3G stock or not.

My other concern is the instructions for adjusting the X-treme look pretty complicated compared to the stock Model 70.

If anyone knows a good gunsmith in SC that could install and adjust an x-treme trigger in a FN A3G without having to leave the rifle with them for a month, I would be interested.

Re: New FN A3G range results

German Salazar wrote a great article describing exactly how to adjust the Xtreme trigger.

Note that you must specify you have an FN SPR, as the #4 lever is different between a Win70 and SPR. Also, the Tactical trigger shoe is recommended for the SPR.

I ordered one but had to return it because the adjustment screws were locked in too tight with whatever googe is put on them....awaiting its return.

I checked Xtreme's website and they only list one trigger for the Model 70. No separate trigger for FN SPR.

Re: New FN A3G range results

Order for a Win70, leave a note saying you want the one piece curved tactical trigger, and that you'll be installing in an FN SPR.

Re: New FN A3G range results

Rifle Basix also makes Model 70 triggers that should be a drop in fit for SPR's. Adjustable from 10oz to 4lbs according to the manufacturer.

Any chance you will post pics and a description of your install process? Or let me put it this way, "I'ma scared. You go first."

OK. Got the trigger. No go.

Trigger won't fit through slot in trigger guard. Might work with tactical trigger. Will have to see if I can send the trigger back and get the tactical trigger.

The trigger unit itself would probably have fit in the slot in the stock except for one round head hex screw that protrudes from the trigger unit about 1/16". That screw head keeps the trigger unit from fitting the slot in the A3G stock. I probably would have just dremeled this if it had not been for the trigger not fitting the trigger guard.

Re: New FN A3G range results

Your original post is awesome. I have recently decided, that is the rifle I want for LRP. Except I'm buying the a1. And then I see people post on your thread that some of them are shit. I hope not.
