My wife and I hit a famly milestone today......

Re: My wife and I hit a famly milestone today......

Time to call Mile High Shooting and reward yourself.

Re: My wife and I hit a famly milestone today......

Good for you. NO one "needs" a home mortgage deduction. Now put that money into retirement/investment.

At the rate my wife and I are going we're about five years away from having ours paid off.

But there's always taxes. We never really own, do we?

Re: My wife and I hit a famly milestone today......

That's awesome! We did a 20yr and will have it payed off in under 14.

People need to realize that even one extra payment a year makes a big difference. We make at least two extra payments yearly and pay an extra $100 every month.

Re: My wife and I hit a famly milestone today......

I'm looking forward to that day as it comes closer. I'm six years into a 30 year mortgage and I'm looking at about 5 1/2 more to finish it off.

Set your priorities and stick with 'em. Don't forget to reward yourself and your better half for your drive and success.

Re: My wife and I hit a famly milestone today......

Good for you.

Me and my wife are working like hell to get ours payed off.

There are a lot of things we would have done different over the years, but you live and learn.

Me and my wife both just turned 29, we never had any debt, only our house, and our goal is to own it by the time we turn 35.

Re: My wife and I hit a famly milestone today......

Nice work! We just re-fi'd ours and saved $8k. By paying twice a month we will also bring in an additional savings of $12k over time by paying the 30 year in 24 or less. The house is our only debt, and Panty 6 did follow Dave Ramsey while she was in school getting her accounting degree. She has since finished with him and now watches house remodelling shows. Since she has made off with every tax return in three years for the house and I have yet to get funding to rebuild my garage, this year I get my garage...or else

Re: My wife and I hit a famly milestone today......

Congrats on the hard work! (That's assuming hard work is still considered a virtue… )

Re: My wife and I hit a famly milestone today......

Congrats and well done!!

Wife and I just went through a re-fi for an impressively low fixed rate. We are roughly 6 years into a 30yr fixed rate mortgage, but with the re-fi savings, paying 2x per month rather than the single monthly payment, making addt'l principle payments, we'll have our 30yr mortgage paid off in just under 20yrs total (another 13yrs and 8mo to be precise if my "fuzzy math" is correct and my accountant isn't as bad at math as I am)!

Re: My wife and I hit a famly milestone today......

House is my only debt, cheaper than rent so I will take the tax write-off despite paying 10x that in interest - consider it rent.

I have about 10 years to go, and I just did a refi but it doesn't change the 10 year mark, in fact brought it down from about 13 years because hte same payment at lower interest - you get the point.

Now to get my gear sold to get some money in hte bank, in case a pending layoff does occur..........go buy something LOL

Re: My wife and I hit a famly milestone today......

VERY COOL! Caps lock is off now, it was deliberate as I doubt there are even 1% of the people on this site who actually own their homes without a mortgage on either the house, land or both.

Re: My wife and I hit a famly milestone today......

Sounds like you guys had a plan and stuck with it. Stories like this make it easier for me to stay in line. Good job

Re: My wife and I hit a famly milestone today......

Thanks to everybody for your kind word's.

It sounds like many of you are also on the right track. Persevere you will succeed!

We did as many of you are doing. We made a payment every other Monday. 52/2=26 This alone adds up to one additional payment per year. We also added an additional $ 145.00 every two weeks. This and the additional payment per year all went to the principal.

We also bought what we knew we could pay for. The banks were more than willing to loan us way more than we knew we were comfortable borrowing.

Look where that business model got the country.

I am going to buy something nice for myself. I had thought about a S&B or US Optics scope. Realisticly though I will probably just buy one of the new Weaver FFP mil/mil tactical scopes. My old eyes will probably never be able to appreciate the difference.

Switch from one 7/29er to another, good luck with the garage!

Re: My wife and I hit a famly milestone today......

Congrats, that "afford vs. what they'll give us" is a discussion my wife and I are going through now. I can't stomach the idea of borrowing what the bank would give us...

BINGO!

Re: My wife and I hit a famly milestone today......

My wife and I started listening and following Ramsey. We're currently debt free except her car and the house. Car will be paid off early next year.
