I have realized that it may be time to step up to a AI.

After doing some looking I may have a line on a factory refurb MkII or do a brand new MkIII.

I realize the new three position safety and skins but what else is new with the MkIII ?

I was very impressed with Mile High Shooting and will be going with them. I am kind of leaning towards a folder in a 20" .308 and buying a spare .260 barrel.

Also for the first AI buyer what advise do you have? What would you do differant? Regrets ?

Re: AI AE MKII or MKIII

I did what you are doing about a year and half ago and regret not buying an AI in the first place. Bought a MKII(MKIII was not available yet) in 308 and then got a .260 barrel. I'm on my second .260 barrel and couldn't be happier. I always loved the classic AI stock but just got the pistol grip skins. I much prefer the pistol grip skins. I would rather have the MKIII safety but it has not been an issue so far. What is the difference money wise?

Re: AI AE MKII or MKIII

If i recall the price was about 5-600 ish between the two.

Mile High said they get sent back to AI and had new barrels and some with new recievers

Re: AI AE MKII or MKIII

The only real difference is the operation of the safety. The MKII rifles have a simply forward and back for safety on and off. The MKIIIs are three position, with the middle position being on safe but allowing bolt operation.

At this point, we don't have any used AEs left...

Re: AI AE MKII or MKIII

I never used the safety on my MKIII, I'd be perfectly happy with a MKII. Most of the matches and ranges I go to require that your bolt is open when you're not shooting, or you're moving between locations, so the safety locking the bolt closed doesn't really help. If you were hunting with it, that would be a different story. Either way the AE is a great rifle, I've never had the confidence in another rifle that I had in my AE.

Re: AI AE MKII or MKIII

I do the same as SSamurai. I seldom use my safety. I've got a 2.0 version and would recommend a folding stock.

Re: AI AE MKII or MKIII

If it is Accuracy International Mark II or Mark III I don't think you would regret either...

Your not gonna go wrong with the Mk11 or the 3. I have the 11 and it is very accurate and bomb proof. Don't think I have used the safety yet. Generally just keep the bolt open.
