Hello.

I'm new to this forum and the sport of long range shooting
Just recently purchased a Rem 700 SPS Varmint .308 with a 26" barrel
I have on order an AICS stock 1.5 as well as an Atlas bipod
Now I need your help selecting the perfect scope for under 1000
This rifle will be used for hunting in West Texas where most shots are 500-600 yards.
Second it will be used for occasional long range target shooting.

I hear from friends that Leupold is a good brand
The scope mst be mil dot, 50mm with a 30mm tube

Thanks in advance!

Re: Need advise on a scope for under $1000

Used SWFA 5-20x50 non-illuminated will be right at or a hair over $1000.

Re: Need advise on a scope for under $1000

Where could I find a used scoe?

Also what's a god website to buy online?

Are these scopes comparable to a Leupold or are they better?

Thanks for your input guys

G

Re: Need advise on a scope for under $1000

Check the "Optics For Sale" section on this forum. SWFA 5-20x50's usually pop up weekly, but most of those are new.

Blackhawk, please read the forum rules regarding selling outside of the For Sale section.

Re: Need advise on a scope for under $1000

Thanks I'll keep my eye on the forum for a scope

I'm also doing a lil bit of research on the Sightron.

Does anyone know how these scopes compare to the Leupold M4 or so

Thanks

G

Re: Need advise on a scope for under $1000

Update

Received my AICS 1.5 stock and installed it on my rem 700
Wow it's a thing of beauty
Now just got to decide on a scope

Does anyone have any other suggestions on scopes?

I will post some pics as soon as I figure this out

Thanx

IOR. You can usually find some good deals on here in the optics for sale forum. Can't go wrong with an IOR and sometimes you can find them for under 1000.

Re: Need advise on a scope for under $1000

i am a minority here for sure. but,i like the burris mtac and would likely get an extreme tac if i had the $.

Re: Need advise on a scope for under $1000

I run a Sightron SIII 8-32 on my Super Sass. VERY happy with it. tracks correctly, glass compares to Nightforce...compared side to side with my buddies. He has Nightforce and US Optics glass on his rigs, and he was impressed with the Sightron. Excellent value for the money.

Another vote for Sightron 8-32. Have it on a 6.5x284. Happy with the quality for the lower price compared to similar Leupold or Nightforce.

Re: Need advise on a scope for under $1000

Well I picked up a scope from 1911GunNut on this forum!
It is a SS 5-20X50mm, now I need help on picking the right height to mounted on my rifle
I think I need a 20 MOA base but dunno what size or type of rings
Am leaning towards the seekins brand.

Let me know hat you guys think

Thanks

G,

Re: Need advise on a scope for under $1000

My Seekins Low 30MM rings and Seekins 20MOA base worked perfect with my 5-20X50SS scope. It is a bit tight for the rubber scope covers, but the Butler Creek covers worked great.

Should I worry about my bolt knob?

I sent it off to get it custom oversized to 1" OD

Re: Need advise on a scope for under $1000

I have a tactical knob from Keith Johns. While it isn't 1" in diameter, it is 7/8" diameter, and I had no problems working the bolt at all.

Re: Need advise on a scope for under $1000

I recently swapped out my seekins low rings for seekins mediums on this scope. There is only a 0.05" difference between them as the lows are 0.82" high and the mediums are 0.87" high.

If you plan on using scope caps or otherwise I'd just get the mediums to avoid having to sand down the caps.

The lows do work, but it's hard to fit caps on.

Re: Need advise on a scope for under $1000

Thanks for all the replies I think I'm getting the mediums with the 20 MOA base

Re: Need advise on a scope for under $1000

your better off saving your money and buy one real good scope that you can use on all your rifles. with that said i would stick with leupold, nightforce, uso, S&B

Re: Need advise on a scope for under $1000

What can brown do for you

Got hot and found that my Atlas bipod had came in. It looks sweet!
Base and rings are on order from Eurooptic.

On my wish list:
Monopod (dunno which one yet)
Sling
Extra magazines

Re: Need advise on a scope for under $1000

Leupolds have mixed reviews with people on the SH. Some love them and some hate hate hate them.

Re: Need advise on a scope for under $1000

I have a REM700 in 270 I use for deer hunting. It has Trijicon. Optics are great and it is exceptional during low light conditions when the deer typ come out and play. I was hunting in TX two years ago with a group of friends and was the only one to take a deer during that late season trip. The scope had a lot to do with it.

Re: Need advise on a scope for under $1000

Quick question.

Now that I'm mounting he scope I' m not sure about the way the seeking rings should be set up
There is one ring with 4 screws and the other with 6 screws
I believe the 6 screws one should be mounted towards the front but not sure
Or does it matter?

Thanx

Not trying to offend, but read the entire thread before posting a response. The OP purchased an optic a few weeks ago, which was posted on this thread.
