I just pick up a Remington 700 SPS Tactical. What would you do to get the most out of it? Stock, Bedding, trigger, Scope ???? And let me some pictures of you SPS tactical.

Re: Remington 700 SPS tactical ???

I think a decent stock should be the first thing swapped out. I would either tune the trigger or buy an old style rem trigger, you can find them for cheap. Then invest in some good glass. Vortex PST 4-16 is a good choice.

Re: Remington 700 SPS tactical ???

Get a decent rings/base/scope and bipod setup. Then find out what kinda ammo it shoots well. After you spend some time behind the rifle, look into you would like to have in your rifle. That would be my advice.

Re: Remington 700 SPS tactical ???

It all depends on budget.

The first thing you will need is a scope and mounting hardware. You can shoot the rifle without it, but it is difficult to hit anything

Honestly, I would invest in the best glass you can afford first, instead of splitting the difference in a new stock and the glass, unless you are ready to fork over nearly 600 to 1000 bucks right now.

SWFA sells a mounting kit, they have several, but the TPS kit with a 20MOA is an excellent value. Little pricier than some, not as pricey as others.

You will need to make your scope choice first as you need that info to decide ring diameter and height.
Best low priced scope:
Bushnell Elite 10X mil/mil

Best overall value around 300:
MidwayUSA Weaver 3-10x Grand Slam Tactical

Honorable mention around 300:
SWFA SS10x or 12x (mil/mil version). Adjustable objective a big plus, fixed power and less than stellar light transmission knock it down a peg. Still a very good scope and damn near bulletproof.

Entry level FFP scope:
Falcon Menace 4-14x. Several excellent reticles, now available with illumination (not required for a range gun), new limited lifetime warranty.

Best value between the Falcon and the next tier is probably the Vortex Viper 6.5-20. Great track record, excellent package, only down side is mil/moa.

Best value in tactical scope:
My personal belief is the Weaver 3-15x FFP illuminated tactical scope has the lock on this title. For about 650 bucks you get crystal clear glass, a well designed and thought out scope. The ONLY thing it is missing is a zero stop, and it really is nothing more than a nice to have feature. There is NOTHING to dislike about this scope.

2nd best value:
Vortex Viper PST 4-16.
Similar feature set to the weaver, very well designed with excellent reticles and a shim type zero stop system. Spotty QC on the glass quality, some are very good, some not so much. Usually about 800 or so bucks.

From there, it only goes up. Bushnell has a very good scope in the 800 dollar range, a 3-12x tactical scope.

After you outfit with glass, replace the stock. I really like the B&C M40 stock. It is an awesome stock and really can't be beat for the price (about 230).

Adjust the trigger no lower than 3 lbs and you will be fine. It is not my favorite trigger, but it works just fine.

Re: Remington 700 SPS tactical ???

I got a Bell and carlson stock, Badger ordnance 20 Moa base, Smith low Rings, and Leupold mark 4 6.6-10 TMR scope for it.

Re: Remington 700 SPS tactical ???

I would get rid of the stock find a HS take off for 200 or 250 skim bed it then get good mounts rail rings ect then start with a ss 10x42 damn good scope for the price then shoot the shit out of it til you get better than the gun that's when you you upgrade. Also sorry get rid of that trigger or get someone to work on it.

Re: Remington 700 SPS tactical ???

I'm by no means an expert; just a farm kid that loves to shoot and appreciates the 2nd amendment. My sps has badger base and rings, manners stock with m5 chassis and a vortex pst 6-24 scope with .1 mrad clicks and atlas bipod. I found out that I may have over-scoped it as many do. The gun is much better than I. I downloaded jbm ballistics for my iPhone and have no trouble hitting 12x12 plate at 600+ yards. I may install a timney trigger and that will be all. I have a lot of fun with it. I'm going to hit the entire setup with krylon as I always do. Enjoy!

Re: Remington 700 SPS tactical ???

Cant go wrong with the SPS Tactical... I liked the 1/10 twist is the reason I went with the AAC-SD

Here is my AAC-SD
Bell and Carlson stock

Timney at 510 at 2#

Looks like you're off to a fine start. Did you mean 3.5-10 or 6.5-20 for the scope? if you got a 6.6-10 well you've been had.
Definitely go shoot it, then decide what else, if anything it needs. Maybe a bipod? Some have good factory triggers, some don't I put a Timney in mine as it didn't. If it doesn't shoot how you like consider bedding, or if you want to know if there's more accuracy to be had.
If you don't reload, you may want to consider that.
Otherwise just enjoy it.
Where's the pics and range report?

Re: Remington 700 SPS tactical ???

After months of research on here on what I should do to turn my Rem 700 SPS Tactical .308 into a budget/training rifle... this is what I ended up with.

Remington 700 SPS Tactical .308
Barrel threaded/Surefire Muzzle Brake
Cheapo Brownells Mag Xtender (Bumps capacity to 7+1 by switching the floor plate. Costs ~$20 and I wasn't gonna bother investing in DBM for this rifle)
Warne Tactical steel 20MOA base - Professionally bedded
Rem X-Mark Pro trigger professionally tuned to 2.5 pounds and locked into position with epoxy (apparently they have a tendency to loosen up/lose final adjustment over time if not locked down)
Harris Bi-Pod
Bell and Carlson Medalist M40 stock
Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 FFP MRAD
A used set of Badger USMC Steel rings

Working great and does everything I need it to until I decide to move up to a .260 Rem rig.

I also saved enough money setting this one up to buy a bunch of ammo and started building up a lot of the necessary tools that I'm going to need in the future when I move to a much more expensive rig. Torque wrench, gun vise, reticle leveling tools, punch kit, etc.

The rings, scope, muzzle brake, bi-pod, can all be easily transferred to the new rig as well.

The most important thing I learned on here is to buy the best equipment you can possibly afford first. Don't waste your time on the gun shop clearance parts, etc. You're not gonna get the performance you're looking for and when you do move to that high dollar rifle in the future you already have some gear that will get you going.
