Re: Remington 700 SPS tactical ???
It all depends on budget.
The first thing you will need is a scope and mounting hardware. You can shoot the rifle without it, but it is difficult to hit anything
Honestly, I would invest in the best glass you can afford first, instead of splitting the difference in a new stock and the glass, unless you are ready to fork over nearly 600 to 1000 bucks right now.
SWFA sells a mounting kit, they have several, but the TPS kit with a 20MOA is an excellent value. Little pricier than some, not as pricey as others.
You will need to make your scope choice first as you need that info to decide ring diameter and height.
Best low priced scope:
Bushnell Elite 10X mil/mil
Best overall value around 300:
MidwayUSA Weaver 3-10x Grand Slam Tactical
Honorable mention around 300:
SWFA SS10x or 12x (mil/mil version). Adjustable objective a big plus, fixed power and less than stellar light transmission knock it down a peg. Still a very good scope and damn near bulletproof.
Entry level FFP scope:
Falcon Menace 4-14x. Several excellent reticles, now available with illumination (not required for a range gun), new limited lifetime warranty.
Best value between the Falcon and the next tier is probably the Vortex Viper 6.5-20. Great track record, excellent package, only down side is mil/moa.
Best value in tactical scope:
My personal belief is the Weaver 3-15x FFP illuminated tactical scope has the lock on this title. For about 650 bucks you get crystal clear glass, a well designed and thought out scope. The ONLY thing it is missing is a zero stop, and it really is nothing more than a nice to have feature. There is NOTHING to dislike about this scope.
2nd best value:
Vortex Viper PST 4-16.
Similar feature set to the weaver, very well designed with excellent reticles and a shim type zero stop system. Spotty QC on the glass quality, some are very good, some not so much. Usually about 800 or so bucks.
From there, it only goes up. Bushnell has a very good scope in the 800 dollar range, a 3-12x tactical scope.
After you outfit with glass, replace the stock. I really like the B&C M40 stock. It is an awesome stock and really can't be beat for the price (about 230).
Adjust the trigger no lower than 3 lbs and you will be fine. It is not my favorite trigger, but it works just fine.
