I called Scott and talked to him about clarity of my 4-16. Long story short, the Vortex company really took care of me. I won't go into details, but he said, "If you aren't happy, we aren't happy." They have earned my business and will get many more orders from me.

Re: * Viper PST Clarity Update *

i have a 4-16 as well that i am not crazy about. what did they do?

Re: * Viper PST Clarity Update *

Yeah what is the story on this? I keep hearing that people are often disappointed in the clarity of the 4-16 and that the 6-24 has better glass - they are in the same scope line and close in price - glass should be comparable quality you'd think.

Re: * Viper PST Clarity Update *

I had a similar issue with an HS 5-15x. The clarity was a bit sub-par, especially at 200+ yards. Vortex replaced it with a new (actually refurbished, I think) scope which has been great so far.

that scope is a midway exclusive and not of the same specs of the pst scope's.

im glad they took care of you

Re: * Viper PST Clarity Update *

I read numerous reviews, after I found the clarity "issue" and found that people have found the 6-24 clarity to be much better than the 4-16. I have no idea why though.
To be clear, I was VERY impressed with every aspect of the scope for the price, just not thrilled with the clarity.
As for what they did, they told me to return it and they would find me a 6-24. I offered more money, because I honestly feel they shouldn't have to go that far. They went far above and beyond what I expected. I have to say, it has made me a lifetime Vortex owner.

Re: * Viper PST Clarity Update *

I have just recently duplicated this exact scenario with 4-16 and they replacing with a 6-24, which I was happy enough with to acquire a second 6-24. That said, I really hope they can resolve issues with clarity and parallax on 4-16, because that's the perfect size/range for a couple of Grendels I'm shooting and I'll buy another soon as they address a fix for same.
Can't say enough for level of courtesy, professional attitude and manner of their customer service staff-excellent in every regard.

Re: * Viper PST Clarity Update *

That pretty much confirms that the 6-24 has better glass than the 4-16... Pretty weird

Gotta love Vortex's CS!!!

Re: * Viper PST Clarity Update *

The above mentioned dedication to getting it right and the fact I hardly ever see them for sell on the board are just some of the reasons my next scope will be a 6-24 pst.

Re: * Viper PST Clarity Update *

Man. That was nice of them to do that for you.
Now that you have announced it on SH do they have to do it for a lot more guys?
I got one that I have noticed could be better at longer ranges.

I hope people don't take advantage of Vortex. That is why I didn't mention what they offered to do in my first post. I did want to share exactly how good their customer service is. I hope it reinforces what a great company they have going.

Re: * Viper PST Clarity Update *

I was considering the PST 4-16 but kept reading the really mixed reviews on optical quality.
That finally led me to get one of the new Weaver Tacticals.

Re: * Viper PST Clarity Update *

My vortex 6x24 is nice and clear, but my Bushnell 4200 Elite 6x24 seems "brighter"....both are 50mm, and I wouldn't trade or sell either one, its what trips your trigger.

Re: * Viper PST Clarity Update *

I have never looked through a 4x16 PST so I can not comment on that. But my 6x24 PST is very clear and I am very Happy with it. My plan was to shoot the PST for a while and save my $$$ so I can upgrade to a NF. Well I might just be shooting this scope for a while. It really gets the job done for a scope under $800.

Re: * Viper PST Clarity Update *

Apparently the 6-24 has never had the problems that the 4-16 has been experiencing.
As I want to use the scope for hunting also, I needed a lower end of power.

Not mine either.

Re: * Viper PST Clarity Update *

So, does this mean that they are shipping out 6-24 scopes? Been looking(ffp version) for one, for a while, but no distributors have them in stock

I have a pst and several other scopes that cost 2-4 times more than what I bought my pst for, and I am surprised by the quality. Great bang for the buck. It is not a nightforce, but I would put it up against my mark 4.

I don't think they do. I have one on back order with them. This will be my second PST - I think they are a great value.

SWFA doesn't show stock status on their website. Just because they list them doesn't mean they are in stock.

Re: * Viper PST Clarity Update *

yeah, I sent an email to SWFA a week or two ago about their availability on the PST's. Skylar said:
"Unfortunately we do not have these in stock currently.

We have several on order with Vortex, however the ETA they gave us has
passed and we are now waiting for an updated ETA from them."

Re: * Viper PST Clarity Update *

I recently received a new std Viper 4-16LR and the clarity is very close to a Bushnell 6500 2.5-16. Very difficult to see any difference in contrast or sharpness in overcast weather. I was surprised. The Bushy has better eye relief although it's a little more position sensitive. The mechanics on the Vortex are superior. If it had just a little more ER it would be about perfect for us under funded guys......

Re: * Viper PST Clarity Update *

Vortex is top notch - I'm running a Viper PST 6-24 EBR MRAD on my GAP 300 Win Mag and believe it's the most & best bang for your buck available right now! Later on down the road (maybe) I'll get an S&B or NF but, why fix what's not broken? Yes, I know the S&B & NF are higher quality for serious shooters, competitors, real world operators (military & police) - but, this is just a fun, enjoyable hobby for me.

My mark 4 ER/T put the 4-16x50 PST I had to shame. Clarity was average at best. If it wasn't for the clarity issue, it would be a best buy in my book. Ended up selling it and moving on.

Reality check...they aren't comparable scopes. The Mark 4 should be compared more to a NightForce than a Viper PST.

Re: * Viper PST Clarity Update *

He was responding to someone who compared their PST to a MK4 and considered the glass on the PST superior.

Re: * Viper PST Clarity Update *

Understood, but the previous Mark 4 wasn't specified whether MR/T, LR/T or ER/T, and there's a big difference among them. I wouldn't think the Viper PST is near the same class as the ER/T, so it seemed like a silly comparison. Now, if I'm wrong and the previous post by the other Mark 4 owner was an ER/T, there is definitely a discrepancy.

Re: * Viper PST Clarity Update *

I really like the utility built into the Viper 4-16x first focal. Excellent features for a first focal at an unbeatable price.

I was however lamenting about its clarity today after looking between my Leupold Mk 4 2.5-8x and the Vortex.

Vortex has far more features, but the glass on that 4-16x is just sub-par.
