I recently purchased an AIAX in 260 to replace my AW for shooting tactical matches. There hasn't been much tactical stuff going on around here lately but, I was anxious to try it out .There is a monthly centerfire benchrest match not far from me so, last month I decided to shoot it using the AX. I mounted a NF F1 on it the night before and apparently didn't torque the cross bolts.

I shot the match and did OK but, nothing impressive. What hurt the most was getting beat by a guy shooting a Savage with a factory 6BR barrel in an HS precision stock.

This month I decided to try again only be a little more prepared. I tightened the rings and sighted the rifle in before the match this time around. It's amazing what a difference a little preparation makes.

15x scope

This just shows that AI rifles are as accurate as they are rugged... and it helps to be prepared before the match.

Another happy moment for Team AIAX

"As accurate as they are rugged" Couldn't agree more.

Good shooting!!

Re: AIAX pulling double duty

Pretty much puts to rest the idiotic notion that AI rifles arennt as accurate as "Custom" rilfes.

Re: AIAX pulling double duty

what was your best group? mine with an AINA .260 barrel has shot a couple 5 shot groups in the .13-.15 range, prone with a rear bag.

Other than doing some load testing, I haven't really shot any groups besides the match.

Here is my target from 330yrds scored 49

and here is the one from 415yrds scored 50-1x

Re: AIAX pulling double duty

Holy crap! Those groups are pretty awesome.
I hope the AE 6.5 I just ordered shoots as well.

Re: AIAX pulling double duty

I know my AIAX in .308 is a hammer! Good shooting, way to go.

Thanks for the compliments guys.

I really didn't care as much about the trophy as I did beating the guy with the Savage.

I don't own a Savage or an AX, but it says alot about Savage if that was one of your main competitors. Everyone knows an AIAX is a badass rig, but those Savages seem to be holding their own. Congratulations on the win and the groups are super impressive. Nice shooting.

Re: AIAX pulling double duty

Oh I want a ax bad... Congrats on the win. I LOVE my AW.

Last month he shot a 198 out of 200 with that Savage. I knew if I had any chance of beating him, I needed to be on top of my game. There was more wind this month and I guess the 6BR was affected more by it.

Re: AIAX pulling double duty

Mine isn't an AX, but an AE MKIII with .260 AINA barrel. I ran an OCW this past weekend. Three loads had groups under 0.1" until the final round when I chucked a flier on the paper for each! Loads had a 1.0 grain total spread too.

AI rifles with AINA barrels just plain shoot! Good shooting!

Re: AIAX pulling double duty

A few months ago I shot a 575-11X in an FPR match with no rear bag with my AE .260. Best group with that barrel was .16 5-shot. Just got a new barrel but it shoots the same as the last.

Both Bartlein/Tooley barrels.

Aren't you a manufacturer?

I think it has more to do with the stock/rest setup. Another guy was shooting a factory action and barrel with a BR stock and rest, and that put him in the custom class.

AIs ARE KING!...But for a Factory Savage at a Fraction of the Price, 198 out of 200 is Very Impressive at a Price Range where common folks like us can have some fun too...

Re: AIAX pulling double duty

Indian, not the bow.

ETA: winners win with whatever they shoot. My problem lately is gettin thrown off my mental game by a rifle that is more accurate than I am, but unreliable. Accuracy shootin is very mental. If you question your rig or it isn't working, you'll have problems.
