Just wanted to pass along some findings, I have struggled a little making this bullet run as well as the A-max but chose to MAKE it work because I wanted to exploit its higher B.C.

I shot this group today in gusting 20+ mph wind and knew when the sear broke I was going to be to the right from the gust. I have found something just a little odd with this projectile as it likes to jump and loading to 2.780 delivers a -.2 in groups over loading it to 2.800 or more in my rifle. Hope this helps others working with it.

5 shoot is .351"
4 shoot is .239"

Notes in the dirt, no rear bag and 20 mph gusting.

Great group especially in those conditions but I think you're confused on the BC. The 140 AMAX has a .585 BC and the BTHP has a .580.

Re: Hornady 140bthp

Nice group ya got there. We've been shooting the Hornady 140BTHP this season in both 260 rifles and also the LR 260 pistol with great success. We were using 42.5 H4350 but the new lot of powder was a bit slower so we upped it to 43.5 and I think it shoots as good or better with gaining back our velocity to 2820 in my sons and 2835 in my rifle. Ours our loaded to 2.850 and feeds fine thru the mag. We've not found that bullet to be picky with powder charges or seating depths in our Savages with Shilen Select barrels. Anything from 42 to 44gr seems to work fine.

Great bullet, not sure why more aren't using it. Buddy of mine had some left over AMAX loaded the same as the BTHP and at 1000 yards the A-max was right about a minute higher. Both loads still grouped well on the 1000 yard target but the BTHP is cheaper and I think prettier so it has to shoot better.

Plus we use them just to be different since nobody else is using them at our matches.

Re: Hornady 140bthp

No problem. Both are excellent choices and .005 difference in the BC isn't enough to worry about.

Re: Hornady 140bthp

Both Shilen Select Match barrels are 28" 1:8 prechambered from Northland Shooters Supply. Have no idea what reamer was used but both our LR 260 pistols with 15" Lilja barrels were chambered by SSK. We can interchange any of them with any gun since they are all loaded the same. We've done that before at practice, grab the wrong box for a given gun and they all fit perfectly and shoot to same POI.

Re: Hornady 140bthp

Another vote for the 140 BTHP. I heard Topstrap talking about them at the local long range match and decided to give them a try in my Creedmoor. I'm sure glad I did as they shoot extremely well. $23 a box too. What's not to love?

Stats
6.5 Creedmoor
28" Kreiger
140 BTHP @ 2.805 (.0015 off lands) 41.7 H4350 yields 2830 fps

Hi Dave, you can go back to your other bullet

. Those things must be working, you shot two great scores in a row with them. They work and are cheap. Let's keep them our secret so the price stays low.

Re: Hornady 140bthp

there really isn't any .260 bullets that do not shoot great, not to diminish your achievment though great shooting in poor conditions.

Re: Hornady 140bthp

Will do Dennis.;) Dad and I are shooting the 140 VLD in our 6.5 Lapuas. We've had them for a while and they shoot well enough that I won't dare tinker with them. Maybe when it's time to rebarrel we'll try the 140 BTHP...
