Has anyone noticed how big bolt knobs are getting? Are people having a hard time trying to cycle the bolt and think bigger is better? I`m thinking about using an 8 ball that way I can cycle the bolt better and faster. Pics will follow soon.

Re: Big bolt knob

Haven't really noticed anything absurd lately.

I'm a fan of the Tac-ops and Badger knobs... Size and weight seems about perfect!

The KRG bolt lift knobs seem a little gross, but thats about the only one that has caught my eye in a negative manner.

Re: Big bolt knob

I have a TacOps that monteboy84 installed. one of the best upgrades i had done to my rifle. wish i had done that upgrade sooner.

Re: Big bolt knob

Bigger does help. Not with cycling (for me anyway) but with not having my hands as sore after a 2 day shoot.

Re: Big bolt knob

I have massive hands, and always have problems with the stock Rem 700 handle, i have replaced each one of them with Badger knobs and it makes a world of difference for me. Yeah there big, but they let me runt he bolt MUCH faster and I don't feel like i am going to break it.

+1 on APA

Re: Big bolt knob

Not a fan of bolt knobs unless it’s a custom action with the small tear drop like Stiller and Defiance use.

Re: Big bolt knob

I had bolt knobs installed by Kampfeld Custom on both my 700's. He does excellent work and quick turn-around time.

Is that hydro or airbrush?

I actually like the stock Remington bolt knob, but I have all kinds including a Badger. I prefer to use the pad of my index finger to lift and pull it, I don't grip & rip most of the time.

Dude, an 8 ball?! Freakin awesome.

Re: Big bolt knob

I got a bigger knob installed on both my remys (40xb and my vs.)
I got a ball type the same size as an AIAW as I liked the feel. It didnt make any difference to its performance or function it just felt nicer. What difference does it make what people do

What are the dimensions of the APA knob? I'm not digging the feel of my defiance knob, I like the badgers but I'm thinking it will stick out to far w/ the short angle the defiance action sits.

Area 419 is nice with its finger groove .Was not a fan of the mausingfield knob (Fuckinugly) then ran one and the rest is history.

I run some good sized knobs on many of my rifles and I've found over the years that most are a hindrance in one way or the other, especially on swept back bolts. For me, with the stock style and shooting style I have, many of the big knobs touch my index knuckle when I'm on the trigger, forcing me to shoot thumb up which changes my hand position and pressure. There is almost a trade off to knobs size.

If you have a common thread pitch you can test what is right for you buy trying some round knobs. Some of the most expensive plastic ones are $3.80, with aluminum going all the way up to $10 :) These are great knobs. They have stainless as well.
