I've got a new 300WinMag in the works (free plug for Accurate Ord.) and I will eventually buy an AE30 for it. Until funds loosen up around summer of next year however, I want to use one of my current .308 cans on it. now, my HVT (Which I sold) was rated for 300WM, my YHM Phantom is rated for .300WM, why is the AAC which has a better core design and made of stronger internal material not? I've asked several people from AAC, and of the 5 people I've gotten 3 different answers...

Has anyone here ran their 7.62SD on a 300 with ill effect? My YHM Phantoms, while QD cans, tend to stay on very specific rifles as they are zero'd with the cans so I don't move them (I've had impact shifts taking the cans on and off).

Thanks for the help guys, good hunting!

You really ought to talk to the manufacturer about it. Some cans may take it but not for long and others may blow early or last forever. Its anyones guess but the mfg can tell you more than any of us. If it was mine I wouldn't shoot it on the win mag. Going from 45gr of powder to 75-80gr is a big deal. You end up with not only a lot more gas volume but also more pressure and more importantly more heat. My .338 Lapua heats the can up to the smoke point of oil in 5 rds where the .308 takes about 15 or 20 rapid fire to do the same. The temps will weaken the material of the suppressor more than you might realize and a kaboom might result....or maybe just small cracks that will eventually lead to kabooms. AAC isn't known for being the best in the customer service area so repairing your can may not be possible. All in all you're better off getting something made for the job instead of trying to make something lesser do more.

Here is my AO .300 win mag with an AE30. If you would like to shoot it sometime let me know when and where. The AE30 is a nice quite can.

I ran about 50rds of 300wm thru mine and then stopped after I did a search, read a post here about one that bulged/blew up. Mike Mers from AAC blessed it with a 22inch or longer host but I wont do it again

Re: Can I shoot 300WM through a 26" 7.62SD?

I dont think AAC ever endorsed the 762SD as magnum rated. I wouldn't do it.
I believe the 762SD-N6 is the only model that is capable of all that punishment.

Re: Can I shoot 300WM through a 26" 7.62SD?

I've talked with several people from AAC. everyone gives me a different answer. So far i've gotten (from AAC employees):

Yes if used on over a 22"
NO don't do it
Yes if used on over 24"
Yes if used with a muzzle break mount
NO, buy a MK13 or the 300SD
Don't buy the 300SD it is just the 7.62SD with an extra baffle.

I guess I'll just stick a YHM on there until I can afford to pick up an AE30.

I purchased a used demo 18t 762SD that had a bulge in it. Right by the expansion chamber. Did not see bulge until I took possetion. Seller said only 6.8 and .308 through it. But I think some 300wm was also used. AAC replaced it for me as the cause was unknown, and I got a new 51t. Lesson....dont fire 300wm unless its expressly warranted for it.

I thought it was a 24 or longer? Either way, I'd run a dedicated 300 can like the MK13 (if your sticking with AAC).

Or Surefires 7.62SOCOM-RC is a good option.

22 inches per Mike Mers, I have since moved on to TBAC products, they produce an excellent product, their customer service is awesome and they answer their phone,,,what more can you ask for?

Re: Can I shoot 300WM through a 26" 7.62SD?

buy a TBAC. I have a 30p-1 on my 300wm and its a dream.

Re: Can I shoot 300WM through a 26" 7.62SD?

I have the 7.62-sdn6. The shorter one, newer one. Are we saying it ok with 300 wm. I have the 24 inch 5R with double chamber AAC BRAKE on it. I would love to shoot it, but I am concerned about trashing it too.

Any feedback with these specs?
