I am looking to bed my new Manners T-4A. I am wondering which of the bedding kits is the best. I am going to be bedding with pillars if that makes any difference. Also it's a 700sa in .308.

Re: Bedding kits?

There are more threads on here about bedding than probably any other subject, for details, search.
Kit not neccesary
Filler for action voids, screw holes etc: modeling clay.
Release agent: Johnsons paste wax, nuetral kiwi shoe polish, or just about any other quality wax you can apply a film of, including products marketed as mold release agents.
Bedding material: Devcon steel, or ti are popular, as is marinetex. Any high quality, hard but not brittle epoxy with a decent working time, that is thick enough to stay where applied, and will not wick moisture once cured should do. Accra-glass, brownells and other products marketed specifically for it are ok as well, but many feel not the best.

Re: Bedding kits?

Agreed. Devcon, Kiwi Neutral, and Play-Doh will do as good a job as any - better than most. Check out the stickied thread.

Re: Bedding kits?

I have read through the bedding threads but was wondering more about the different kits. But if ya'll say I don't need the kit then thats what I'm going with. Thanks for the advice.

Re: Bedding kits?

Forget it and get some devcon, kiwi and such as stated above. You'll want some kind of masking type of tape too. Just follow the sticky up top and I bet you'll get good results. I did just as was recommended and followed the sticky on my first job and it turned out perfectly. Well I did have one small spot, on the side of the action, that I didn't put enough devcon in. So make sure you apply liberally in all areas. I wouldn't go over board, but put more than you think you need. Clean up is simple and it's much more intimidating the first time, but it's not that difficult (in my opinion). Good luck

Re: Bedding kits?

I'll only add, that I found that a tub of plumber's putty works just as well as modeling clay- and is easier to find...

Re: Bedding kits?

Thanks for all the replies. I think I'm ready to give it a shot.

Re: Bedding kits?

You also might want a paper bag to hyperventilate into while the bedding cures.

Re: Bedding kits?

That's funny right there. But seriously, I may need one!
