I am completely disgusted with Bruno's... my custom Rem 700 only went in for a new barrel in .338 RUM, opening up the bolt face and timing a muzzle brake. I took it there in May and was promised the beginning of July and the barrel was there in stock... it is now October and they haven't even touched it... I'm so glad I paid half in advance for no reason. Thinking about cancelling and sending it out. Any suggestions?

Phoenix Custom Rifles is near you and they have a good reputation here on the Hide and do some pretty spiffy looking work too!

+1. They are finishing up one for me right now.

One more for these guys. They do great work you'll be very happy with. Not to mention, they don't have a huge back log, so it shouldn't take till next year. Best of luck.

Chad Dixon just did mine and if it hadn't been for Garrett's baby, he'd have probably had it back in a week from/to my doorstep. As it was, it only took 2 weeks.

Big honkin recoil lug:

Free plug:

Ready for barrel break-in:

Wow! Ten-shot group with my break-in rounds(*). One called flier (marked):

Perfect crown print:

* My break-in rounds were FL sized mil-surp brass with WLR primers, 43.0 Varget and 175 M118LR pulls seated to spec (2.800)--not a load built for accuracy, just for break-in.

Re: Any good places to send a rifle for barrel work?

Glad its working well. Babies do seem to mess with production schedules. . .

Sticking a barrel onto a receiver is a 4 day evolution for us IF we have the parts/reamers in house.

Accurizing a receiver makes it take a pinch longer. I'm the only one in the shop that does the receiver work.

Ceracoat doesn't add to the timeline unless its a color we don't stock. We have a big selection though so usually we can get stuff out in short order.

Be glad to help. All of our receiver work/barrel work is done on cnc equipment. Makes stuff come out nice and its efficient.

I'll vouch for Chad's work and the timeliness of thier turnaround. Work is first rate and if they are off on schedule (usually not by much, but shit does sometimes happen) they will keep you informed.

Re: Any good places to send a rifle for barrel work?

I had the following work done with Robert Snyder at RWS Gunsmithing:
- True receiver, notch feed ramp
- Chamber, cut and crown Bartlein barrel
- Thread for Badger FTE muzzle brake
- Custom thread protector
- Cerakote FDE
- Install 0.25" custom recoil lug.

I provided all hardware, including the recoil lug.

I sent the rifle out and had it back to me three weeks later.

PCR are great guys and local to you. They have done some minor work for me and it was top level.

Re: Any good places to send a rifle for barrel work?

Thanks all. I'm calling Bruno's in the morning and getting an answer... most likely I'm gonna pick it up since I can't ever find anything out. I'll buy shooting supplies but nothing else from them again!!!

Re: Any good places to send a rifle for barrel work?

Holy shit, after almost 5 months I was finally told today only 2 weeks to go. At this rate 2 weeks is probably 5 more if you compare it to the 2 months turning into 5... same difference right?!?!?!?

Re: Any good places to send a rifle for barrel work?

Call Jered at APA he is awsome to deal with.

Re: Any good places to send a rifle for barrel work?

Another vote for Chad at Long Rifles . He took excellent care of my project !
