Wanted to get some advice for a new pistol. I will mostly be using it for carry but will occasionally use it for 3 gun. I'm leaning towards a compact 1911. My budget is no more than $1000. A major plus with me is having a true safety, not just a trigger safety.

Re: Need help choosing a new pistol.

I know you said 1911 but, I really enjoy my M&P .45. Shoots straight! Ambi safety in a comfy spot. 3 diff. pistol sizes w/ double stack. Eats everything I have fed it so far. reset is crisp. All factory with zero mods and happy so far.

Re: Need help choosing a new pistol.

I own close to a half dozen 3k plus custom 1911's from various best known custom houses/smiths in the Country. I love them all. Great shooting, comfortable ergo's, accurate, great triggers. If I had to do it all over again...I'd just go Walther PPQ. Has all the same qualities I just listed for the excellent price point of 599. Actually...thats my next pistol purchase. (yes..I have many Glocks as well and love them too!!)

Re: Need help choosing a new pistol.

Smith and Wesson MP in whatever caliber you want. You can get them with an optional thumb safety

Re: Need help choosing a new pistol.

^^ +1 on the M&P. I use mine for carry and IDPA competition. It just fits me so well from an ergonomic standpoint and shoots like a dream right where I aim it every time. Never had a FTF or FTE with a few thousand rounds down the pipe, even with about 500 rounds or so without cleaning (One IDPA match and a private IDPA style showdown with my brother on the same day).

All for $500-$750 depending upon your choice and what goodies you add.

Re: Need help choosing a new pistol.

If you have enough patience to wait on a custom made holster by Raven you will enjoy it! sure fits the gun well and nice and tight anywhere on the belt.

Re: Need help choosing a new pistol.

I'm going to my local gun shop to look at the M&P are there any other suggestions?

Re: Need help choosing a new pistol.

Glock. Have several others but they are what I trust my life with.

.
See if they have a Glock G4 21, with the new grips you can "downsize" it to fit hands better. I love my Gen3 but that Gen 4 shoots REALLY nice. That being said I've shot the MP45 as well (full size and compact)
didn't care for the compact as much. Either in full size I definitely wouldn't have a problem owning and
shooting. The MP MIGHT be a smidge more accurate ..good luck on your search.
.
Just stay away from SIG they'r latest offerings aren't what they used to be. (When the gun had WEST Germany on the slide they were great.)

Re: Need help choosing a new pistol.

Why do you need a safety? What division do you plan on shooting?

I just like having a safety.

Re: Need help choosing a new pistol.

Well after spending about 5 hours at the gun store today I ended up getting a H&K P30L with the light Law Enforcement trigger in 40SW. I kept going back and forth between the H&K and M&P but by the time I had night sights installed the price difference wasn't that much so I went with the H&K.

Re: Need help choosing a new pistol.

The Walther PPQ is the best of the bunch listed, but doesn't meet the manual safety requirement. Sounds like a CZ Custom Shop gun would be perfect for your needs. 1911-style controls and feel, good ergos, high capacity.
