Seekins not matching up with AA piston upper.

I recently attempted to put together a Seekins lower with a Adams Arms piston upper for a friend of mine. The LPK was super smooth to install with the seekins, no hicups or any bs. Usual parts except for a Geissel SSA trigger. Now when I attached the upper, the rear takedown pin would not line up. it would enter part way, maybe 1/4", and not go all the way through. The Seekins tensioner is completed depressed and is not touching the rear hinge at any point.

His brother then re installed everything and same result.

Any ideas on where to go from here? Contact Adams Arms or Seekins? Really not too sure on what they'd be able to do.

Thanks for the help gents.

Re: Seekins not matching up with AA piston upper.

Well I know this is of much help, but asking either company to come up with an answer/solustion will probably go no where. Neither is going to want to try and "fix" the other companies "problem".
In all likelyhood they will blame the others as not being in spec, etc.

That being said, I have a few Seekins lowers and have mated them with milspec and billet uppers with no problem, so my guess would say your upper may not be a milspec upper. Is it billet or forged?

I know it sucks to have this happen after you have spent time and money.

Good luck and hope you can resolve it.

Take care,Stan

Re: Seekins not matching up with AA piston upper.

+1 on Stan's comment that this is likely something in the upper and not with the Seekins lower (which I know from personal experience are held to tight tolerances and work with every upper I have put on one).

Without seeing it, its hard to tell exactly what may be going on, but here are a few things to check out...

When you put the upper on the lower, can you visibly look and see that there is a misalignment of the hole in the rear takedown pin lug and the takedown pin hole in the lower?

Is it possible that the takedown pin is bent or otherwise out of spec (I have seen this happen with some lower quality parts kits...not saying that is the culprit, but worth a look. Similarly, could the pivot pin be out of spec and not permitting the upper/lower to fit properly)?

Does the takedown pin fully insert/retract in the lower without the upper installed?

Do you have another lower you can try the AA upper on to see if the same issue exists?

Re: Seekins not matching up with AA piston upper.

Thanks for the suggestions.

To answer some of the above questions:

- Yes you can see the offcet.
- pin does go through the rear attachment point, but not through to the other side of the lower.
- I'll have him try the AA on my JD... maybe its just this one upper or lower.

Re: Seekins not matching up with AA piston upper.

Is the misalignment an up and down issue or front to back issue? I would think some simple filing of the upper take down pin hole on the upper should resolve the issue and I highly down a minor fitment issue like that couldnt be filed to fit if it's an up and down misalignment as long as the buffer tube alignment was correct.

Good luck,
Merritt

Re: Seekins not matching up with AA piston upper.

We would be happy to look at it for you. Send us both parts.

I have seen where the back of the upper lug hits funny pushing it slightly out of alignment. I would check that first. Also, I have seen some fit very tight and tapping the td pin in and back out a few times can make it work.

Also, just because one part may or may not work on another upper or lower doesn't mean anything spec wise. The actual spec is well, lets just say it leaves quite a bit assumed..

Either way, we won't leave you hanging, if its our issue we will take care of you just as I would expect to be if I was on the other end..
