Despite the price, I'm leaning towards the Geissele Hi-Speed National Match - Match Rifle Trigger (Item Number: #05-127). But I've also heard good reports about Jard triggers.

Both companies have triggers that can be set to slightly less than 2 pounds. I figure that will be good for a match rifle that may have to be lugged around a course. (My bolt action rifles are set to about 6 ounces and my IPSC 1911 breaks cleanly at 2 pounds.)

I've also seen several instances of the Armalite 2-stage trigger being recommended.

Are there any preferences among the experienced competitors here?

Thank you,
Richard

Re: Trigger for new AR-10 - Geissele, Jard, other?

In my experience with multiple triggers from the aftermarket for the AR-15 and large-frame ARs, there is no finer trigger than those made by Geissele. Obviously, they offer several flavors depending on your specific wants/needs, but if you are wanting to go as low as you possibly can while retaining a safe trigger, then the HS NM is likely the ticket. The DMR is also one hell of a trigger, but just won't adjust down quite as light at the NM in terms of the second stage pull weight.

Re: Trigger for new AR-10 - Geissele, Jard, other?

I have used tuned GI style, Rock River 2 stage NM, Jard and then Geissele SSA and the Hi-Speed.

For Economy and good standard the Rock River is a great choice.

But if you want the best for either NM shooting or a precision AR platform go with the Geissele you won't regret it.

Re: Trigger for new AR-10 - Geissele, Jard, other?

Geissele, for 2 stage all day long. I always loved the RRA, but had one crap out on me after only 1800 rds. ?? Maybe just a fluke, but after that it was a bad single stage trigger. Highest rd count on Geissele so far is 1,200 and is smoother than butter. I also like the Armalite 2 stage DMR trigger, and have one on a 556.
BTW, all this shooting was done on a .556

Geissele...there is a reason SOCOM uses it. They are extremely crisp and reliable.

Re: Trigger for new AR-10 - Geissele, Jard, other?

I have a Geissele SSA-E and it is nice. I would like less travel in the initial first stage pull and then a tad lighter on the 2nd stage but overall the trigger feels great. FWIW I shot my buddies 6.8 with the same trigger and they felt a lot different.

Yeah. Pretty much sums it up.

Re: Trigger for new AR-10 - Geissele, Jard, other?

I've recently switched from the Geissele SSA-E to the SDE and I love it. I won't use anything but Geissele triggers for an AR.

Geissele!!

Re: Trigger for new AR-10 - Geissele, Jard, other?

If you like a custom 1911 trigger and wondered how it would perform in an AR, then get an AR Gold. If you like a good bolt gun trigger in an AR, try a JP trigger.

Geissele has never really done much for me. Just feels like a modified AR trigger.

SSA-E in mine and liking it a lot......

Re: Trigger for new AR-10 - Geissele, Jard, other?

The votes are in, and it appears to be Geissele by quite a landslide. Shall get one.

Many thanks for all the input.

Cheers,
Richard

Re: Trigger for new AR-10 - Geissele, Jard, other?

I took the plunge and bought a Geissele, even though the price was offensive to me for "nothing but a trigger". I figured I'd try it out, find out that the hype was just hype, and then sell it for 80% or so of what I had in it with my curiosity satisfied and a lesson learned.

The Geissele is still in my primary AR and I'll be putting more in the ones that I use less often as I get to them without a regret over the cost.

Re: Trigger for new AR-10 - Geissele, Jard, other?

I just put a Jard in a 243 that I built and not having shot it yet but dry firing it, its awful. Ibwill give it a shot and see but its just spongy and not crisp at all. If /when it gets replaced it will be with a Giessele super 3 gun with flat trigger or an AR Gold.

Good information, indeed. Many thanks for the link.

By the way, the several sources I've checked have the same price for the Geissele unit I plan to get ($279.99). Does any source offer any lower price?

Thanks,
Richard

Re: Trigger for new AR-10 - Geissele, Jard, other?

I don't generally see a lot of price differences on the Geissele triggers unless somebody is running an overall "discount" or something along those lines. I got my last 2 from MidwayUSA in conjunction with their usual discount codes. Using them usually gets you between $20-30 off. Also, they generally have them in stock.

For example, current codes include:

AR151125 will work for $25 off $200

AR151135 will work for $35 off $300

I have 2, both in Sun Devil receivers. One is awesome, the other is just as you describe it.

Re: Trigger for new AR-10 - Geissele, Jard, other?

Geissele DMR. The adjustability is awesome and the trigger itself is very smooth. Not sure how light you want to go, but you can adjust the DMR down enough to where it would make me uncomfortable to use it in the field.

Re: Trigger for new AR-10 - Geissele, Jard, other?

The Geissele SSA that I got, first real trigger I have ever bought so take that for what it is worth, is insanely good. It is so good it spoils me to disdain of other rifles I own, over the trigger.

Trident has an awesome comparison that I used when purchasing. As I did not understand the whole 1st and 2nd stage thing, my knowledge was only via gun store conversation. Check out his posts too, via a search he has a lot of info on triggers.
