GEISSELE MRGG 6.5 CREED WRITE UP AND REVIEW

One thing I’m not sure I saw covered, but noticed in disassembly is the receiver extension is 1/2” longer than KAC or LMT. The longer stroke probably contributes to the softer recoil impulse.

longer buffer tube is necessary due to MRGG using the AR-15-length H2 buffer (3.25"), instead of the shorty AR-308 buffer (2.5"). if so, stroke length is the same.

my guess.

it's interesting that instead of going with the H3 5.5oz buffer, G put the weight into the tail end of the bolt carrier. I wonder how much weight, how much heavier is the MRGG bolt carrier in comparison to a run-of-the-mill AR-308 bolt carrier. I'm guessing it's more than a couple of ounces. That probably has more effect on the felt recoil, that, and the proper gas tuning, looks like a short dwell time, gas-port to muzzle, also.

I guess with that weight in the carrier, you can't just drop the firing pin down the tube any more when reassembling your BCG, it goes in via the hammer opening. no biggie.

The buffer is AR-15 size like KAC and LMT, and the BCG matches OAL dimension with them. FWIW KAC also uses H2 buffer on their SR25 rifles. I really do think the stroke is longer unless there’s a weight in the receiver extension.

The carrier weighs 22.1oz vs 18.9 for KAC 6.5CM BCG. The firing pin does insert via the hammer opening, the manual covers it. There is no firing pin spring unlike KAC and LMT. Not fond of those couple things with the BCG nor the ejector positioning on the bolt face.

The gas system length is a fair bit longer than KAC as well. At least two inches for the journal position plus the additional length from the phased array ports.

also curious about size of the gas block. seems to be larger than 0.750" diameter GB journal, is it a 0.875" or 0.936" gas block. It's also interesting that G didn't pin the gas block, like they did with the URGI.

is the barrel nut steel? or aluminum?

thanks for the pics, and the detailed descriptions.
