Official (DTA) SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Th

You know what? Im brilliant....water canons and booth babes.

You could charge for dudes to try to squirt their bikinis off!!

Make the canons look like SRS's!!

Im a genius......damn Nick, Im dying to move back to Utah....you need to put me in charge of marketing and promotions!

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Th

And there are some DTA enthusiasts who are family men who wouldn't want their daughters displayed or treated that way and who wouldn't want their sons to see or behave in such degrading behavior.

I think Mr. Young has made a decent and smart call to not turn his business into a strip club.

Dude....your humor meter is broken.

Id get that checked, its probably under warranty.

Then again, maybe your idea isn't as funny or as manly as you think it is.

I'm not going to derail this thread on a fine rifle. Will you?

Well at least I thought it was funny...and sorry, I dont define my manliness via my humor.

But you carry on.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Th

Anybody have any pictures of the new bolts???

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Th

Ok guys need your opinion on suppressor color. I'm going to put a TB 338ba on my DTA. My srs is earth tone on the plastic and black on the rest. Do I go with a black can or DE?? Can't figure out which will look better. I know if I use it on other guns black would be better but can't quite decide.

Also, is mirage worse off of black then tan?.

Thanks,

cJ

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Th

Buy a black suppressor and a DE suppressor cover..

What he said. The color of the suppressor it self doesn't really matter as you will want a TAB suppressor cover to go on it. He has many colors to choose from

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Th

Thanks for all the advice! Will go with black and get covers!

Any luck on pix of the new bolt???

Is running a dta in competitions competitive?

Or is the mag position, bullpup design a negative ?

Agree with CBM...the DTA configuration makes Tactical Rifle Matches almost perfect. The short bull-pup design makes shooting on rooftops or through ports, a piece of cake.

Due to the shorter length and the weight being further inward, they have a huge leg up in my opinion. Especially with moving, barricades, ports, and most importantly positional shooting (especially standing).

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Th

I'm thinking about getting a srs.
It will manly be used in comps. Speed and reliability are paramount.
I know this rifle cost a lot of $ and everybody is proud of their kit but please give me a honest answer.

I'm running a 24" Rem 5r in a Wiskey 3 folder, with 10 round drop free mags. The gun shoots 3/4" and is VERY reliable/never jams.

1. Can you chamber load your srs to get a total of 6 rounds easily during a " shooter make ready" time frame in a match? Or is this a cycle bolt eject mag insert new mag procedure? With a regular bolt gun throw a round in chamber close bolt and insert new 10 round mag for a total of 11 rounds.

2. Does the fact you only have 5 round mag, and the time it takes to do a mag change make you wish you had a ten round mag to stay competitive?

3. If you need one more round to complete the stage can you single load?

4. Do the mags drop free?

5. If the srs jams...game over you just lost the stage? Or is it easy to clear.

6. Has your SRS jammed on you during your last 300 rounds? (please be honest)

Thanks.

If you reload, and shoot a more competitive caliber like any of the 6.5's .25 MOA is easy to get so long as you yourself can con hold groups that well.

Yes

5. If the srs jams...game over you just lost the stage? Or is it easy to clear.
Same as your rifle.

Of course! Who's hasn't? We ran a national level shoot last week end here in Las Vegas. With the exception of 2 AR's, all shooters shot a Remington or a Rem clone. Individual Rems have their own individual ways they like to be ran or they will jam.

By all means, try one out before you take the plunge. Fill out your shooter profile. Maybe one of us lives near you. If you live near Vegas, come shoot a match and try mine out.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Th

Yup, what he said.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Th

+2 What they said, I just came out of a 5R AI 2.0 package that shot .5MOA all day with factory ammo and my SRS/Covert smokes it. Plus running my SAC 6.5CM barrel I almost never shoot any other caliber (except the .308 Covert I got from Ty) It's the best system I've ever run and I've been lucky enough to have been on some of the best. The closest was was a Surgeon 591 in 6.5CM in an AX but I'd take my DTA any day over those. YMMV

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Th

Fireguyty summed it up pretty well.

I have not had a jam in our out of competition with my SRS. Maybe it is the .260 caliber that I am running most of the time, or maybe I have just been lucky with it so far.

I also second the accuracy of the 6.5 calibers. The first group I shot with my SRS in .260 was a 1/8 inch group. It pretty much ended my search for a load for the rifle. All of the different loadings I had that day, shot 1/2 inch groups (139 Scenars with different amounts of RL17).

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Th

Anyone ever taken a set of non pod skins and cut or milled so pod could be used?

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Th

The new 2nd gen chassis are ready to accept the monopod. For an earlier generation conversion, I would just send it to DTA.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Th

I should have given more detail, it's a gen 2, and when you buy the monopod you get a whole other set of skins, just thought you could have 2 different color skins to use.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Th

Has anyone tried the 284 win in a DTA yet?

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Th

The butt pad attaches differently on the monopod skins. The design on the non monopod skins will not facilitate the use of the monopod due how the butt pad is attached.

So when you buy a monopod kit you get a new butt adaptor?

Can you, or someone, post a photo of the attachment differences?

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Th

Yes, you get a new butt pad adapter. To unlock the butt pad on the monopod skins requires you to press a button located on the bottom of the stock panels between the monopod and butt pad.

On the non-monopod versions you slide a small spring loaded lever on the bottom of the stock panels to release the butt pad. This spring loaded lever will be in the way if you were to try to hollow out the bottom of the stock panels and run a monopod with those panels.

Is the new adaptor backward-compatible with the non-monopod stocks? (Sounds like probably not....)

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Th

Wow, lots of info in this thread, took me a couple of days to read thru it all. I really want to like the DTA, my main hang up on buying one is the trigger. I'm a 2-stage guy and am afraid I wouldn't be happy with the DTA trigger.

In this thread it is mentioned that a 2-stage trigger is in the works, but thats about it. In another thread on the forum it is mentioned that the Gen 2's are two-stage, which contradicts whats listed on the DTA website.

So, anyone know if indeed a 2-stage trigger is available?

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Th

2 stage is not available at this time, we will have one in the future that will be retrofitable but it may be some time still.

Cool, I appreciate the quick response. I look forward to it.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Th

On the trigger, it's really nice, especially for a bullpup. While not a 2-stage, it's still very much adjustable and clean breaking.

On retrofitting the monopod, from what I've gathered if you have an early run Gen1 receiver like me (2008-mid2009), it needs to be sent in to DTA to be modded to fit the monopod. However, if you have a later model Gen1 (late 2009?) it should already have the inset the monopod hooks into, in which case you would just order the monopod and replacement skins to be installed at the operator level.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Th

I've used this community for quite a while for some of the best information on the web, finally posting now though.

I have a DTA SRS Covert arriving in the next few days with a 16" 308 barrel. When I move in a few months to a location that let's me stretch out a bit and fire at 1000m + I would definitely like to purchase the 338 Lapua Magnum barrel. So with that move to a more "free" state I'll also be allowed to jump through some hoops for a suppressor, in short, would it be possible to outfit the covert in 510 whisper? If the barrel wouldn't be a problem and to my understanding the bolt face for the 338 is the same for the 510 whisper how about magazine issues? Is there outfits there who custom make or alter magazines to allow for the extremely fat 500 projectiles?

Thank you very much

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Th

You can just shoot subsonic 308 win or subsonic 338 loads in our factory barrels and it will get you the same thing. I have a hard time understanding why everyone does custom subsonic round like the whispers and blackout when anything suppressed and subsonic is the same.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Th

As I hinted in my last post I'm extremely new to most aspects of this especially suppressed firearms. My thought was that since the speed of the round was limited to just under supersonic that I would be happier with a suppressed gun if the weight of the projectile was as heavy as possible. Which was the only reason I was looking at the 510 whisper at all. I don't have any preplanned needs for this setup other than the fact that I don't have one yet. I thought I may as well aim high and buy once (if buying once ever worked for firearm purchases haha).

Thank you for the quick response, it's great that DTA keeps in contact with their customer base soo well. It makes me feel even more confident about my DTA purchase.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Th

biffj is the guy to talk to about the .510 Whisper/ 12.7x48mm conversion in an SRS. I'm in the process of putting one together myself, just for a fun project, but it's a lot of work compared to what Nick suggested. .338LM subsonic factory ammo is out there as are great bullets designed for shooting subsonic. In fact, I would imagine a 300gr subsonic out of an 18" .338LM covert barrel would be hard to beat (save the spear chucking .510W).

For a .510 Whisper build you need a few things:

- barrel extension for your SRS
- SRS armorer's kit (with barrel vise, key & blueprints)
- dies (CH4D)
- reamer (PT&G)

Then the pain of making brass begins. Here you'll want to trim down the brass then chuck it in a lathe and turn down the neck and cut the minimalist shoulder.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Th

Zero rider
Definitely didn't mean to come across as a flame more of a general suggestion and observation of what I have seen a lot of.

Our covert barrels have very fast twist rates to stabilize heavy subsonic ammunition in the available cartridges that we offer. Perhaps we just haven't marketed it effectively. Many dont understand that a subsonic projectile of similar weigh is the same thing and it doesn't matter what case you fire it from. Corbon has some good subsonic ammo for 308 and 338. Try that an you will see it is as good and accurate a any of the whisper or blackout loads. Also make sure you try shooting full power ammo suppressed because the cans make full power ammo very quiet without compromising on downrange performance.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Th

I love the current DTA trigger... and the rest of the system.

If I were to ask for anything, I'd ask for as much lightening as is consistent with no loss in accuracy.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Th

What projectiles are being used in the DTA .510 Whisper conversions?

Anybody do relevant gelatin studies?

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Th

A lot of guys use A-MAXs or cheap M33 ball, depends on what you're going for. I know of one guy who hunts with his and he says he's getting incredible terminal ballistics by using the Lehigh controlled fracturing subsonics.

Hey Sully,
I wish you were a little more patient.like myself and others who haven't thrown me under the bus! great stuff is always worth the wait! I waited almost 3 years to get a factory M4 Benelli folding stock. And got the call they were shipping it out on the day of my Birthday. Was the best gift I ever got! And Was worth every bit of the 2 1/2 years I waited. Only paid retail $250 To everyone who has requested one I still have every intention on getting everyone there pad. Also i have a new model to add to the line-up. I was getting requests for sniper teams if I could make a pad that could hook to there vest or Ruck or and a mag pouch to etc.

Things have been rough on me this year with my income loss and wasn't able to even think of sewing in my crisis. But I am in the works having 60 pads made before the years end.
Thank you for everyone's support and patience.
