I recently brought a dpms lar-308 sass. I love the gun shoots great Sub MOA, great feel, upper and lower have a very tight fit.
The only thing i dont like about it is the upper rail had a gap between upper reciever and hand guard. Ive been searching around for one that would make the upper rail continuios, but gettin differant stories on what fits. I know its not the a3 hight, because it was brand new when i bought it a month ago, but some places are saying the upper rails still doesnt match up. Does anyone have one of these that they have added a differant hanguard to that can maybe post pic and what brand they went with.

thanks

Re: DPMS LAR-308 SASS

Do you mean the very slight gap between the upper receiver and the hand guard or is the gap you mentioned a difference between the height of the rails on the upper and the hand guard. My DPMS SASS has no difference in height between the two.

Re: DPMS LAR-308 SASS

Troy makes a rail that bridges the gap for the most part. There's still a tiny gap but it still matches the flat top rail so that your optics can bridge the gap if needed.

Re: DPMS LAR-308 SASS

Daniel Defense 7.62 lite rail fills the gap but the height is about 1/16" off. It's hardly noticeable but if for some reason you need to put one ring on the upper and one one the rail it wouldn't work. Now if you're lining up optic like a magnifier on a red dot, I doubt it would make a real difference. They are expensive but worth the money IMO.

You could check w/ Troy like DubGunner said, they make good stuff. But also check w/ JP. They make a lot of good stuff compatible w/ DPMS.

Re: DPMS LAR-308 SASS

I have A LRT SASS and I have a very small seam but not a gap. I would send it back to DPMS. Post a pic

Re: DPMS LAR-308 SASS

Guess i wasnt clear, looking for something that will give me a continious top rail, there is a barrel nut inbetween the reciever top rail and handguard top rail but i hear there may be a height issue just bought the gun 1 month ago.

Re: DPMS LAR-308 SASS

I'm in the process of purchasing one of these right now. DPMS claims it spaces perfectly, as if it were totally continuous. Unless you need rail connection right at the barrel nut, AFAIK it should work just like a continuous rail.

Re: DPMS LAR-308 SASS

Ya it more the look of the rail, im vain. Found another there here with some pic and help thanks.

Re: DPMS LAR-308 SASS

Just a note if you decide to go with another rail make sure you measure the reciever side. DPMS started making the upper receivers a bit higher awhile back. The aforementioned TROY rails are made for each the older/lower style an newer/higher style.

Re: DPMS LAR-308 SASS

DPMS makes two different height rails. If you go to Troy Industires website they have a good explination along with pics and measurements when you click on the Troy Battle Rail MRF-308 quad rail. From what I have personally observed, the older DPMS without the dust cover and forward assist comes with a 20ish moa rail built in you see these alot on the 18 and 24 inch heavy barrels with the circular forearm. The newer DPMS and those with the dust cover and forward assist have a lower / standard height. The high profile has a 3/16 wide top portion where the charging handle sits. The new low profile is 1/8. The area to measure is the lip that extends over the charging handle when its forward and secured to the upper receiver ( in battery ). So who ever you go with make sure you tell them which height it is low / high profile and it will solve your problem of the gap and give you the look your going for.
