Well I haven't built my self anything in a while, so I dug up some parts I've been saving since about two years ago. I saw a rifle like this one here on the Hide last year, and ordered the stock. I got it 10 months ago, and lost the drive until now. Started the build on Friday morning, and pulled it out of the oven last night. Thanks to one of our fine members who helped me out by selling me some bullet, I hope to test shoot it this coming Friday. No one I contacted had SMK 300 bullets. If all goes well, then I plan on a trip to Manatee early November. The parts list goes as follows.

Stiller TAC-338
Bartlein MTU, 1 in 9.35, Flutted, and finished at 27 inches
APA Brake
McMillan A4 stock
Timney 510U trigger
My old test scope NF 8-32 x 56 has found a permanent home now, on a set of NF .885 Ultra light rings.

Not going to pull any punches here....that is beautiful work there, always nice when it is one of your own. Going to bet that thing is going to shoot lights out too.

Those SMKs should hit your door by Wednesday barring this Hurricane thing delaying things.

Nicely done. I normally prefer natural colors on my guns, but I have to say that thing looks like a bad mother f*cker. I'm sure it will shoot like crazy, too.

I know, but I already have a bunch in those colors, and just wanted something a little different. Someone else thought of it first, I just copied them when I saw it. The bell is just off the barrel by about 1/8 inch, just enough. Thanks again.

Re: New 338 LM Build

what is the difference on the action compared to a remington 700 long action? or dose the 338 lapua need longer working space than a rem 700 can provide?

The Stiller TAC-338 is different from the Remy LA in that the body of the action is .050 inch thicker/wider and the tenon area is also longer. The action screw holes are the same distance center to center. It's a bit more robust than the Remy LA.

Re: New 338 LM Build

Well, I got out to shoot this thing today. I was pressured for time, and only had 18 rounds loaded with 300 SMK's for getting a zero. The rifle shot well below the 1/2 MOA I was expecting, but that's just a part of the good experience I had upon firing the first round through the APA Fat Bastard Brake. I just want to say thank you to APA for making this this brake work so well. I know the rifle is heavy, but I have shot other 338's with lesser breaks, and there's a difference. So for all those wanting to know, I'm here to tell you that this brake is worth it. Hope to shoot it out at some distance in the coming weeks where it really counts.

BTW, the McMillan A5, and Manners T5A are my favorite stocks, even though the A5 is the most popular. I have a few more SA A4's I'm saving for future personal builds.
