New gun storage....

Re: New gun storage....

Functional artwork of sorts. I like the center vertical drawer.

Re: New gun storage....

I saw this vid the other day on one of the firearm blogs. The designer, builder, etc. made a lengthy post with more details on the unit depicted in the video. I'll try to track it down in a minute, but the cost was $3500 for the one in the video.

ETA: Well, finding it didn't take nearly as long as I thought. Figures!

The designer/builder's comment is roughly half-way down the page in the comments section, but here is a direct link:

Re: New gun storage....

Those locks look like the FirstAlert (or whatever the brand is) child locks that keep children out of cabinets.

I have the same ones and they work good but they're made of cheap plastic but physical security isn't really the main factor in this design anyway.

Re: New gun storage....

That is very nicely done.

Would love to see some of those in person, if they feel as well done as they look, I would not mind having one of those when we build.

Re: New gun storage....

That's pretty bad ass. I have been looking to build something like this instead of going the safe route. I am still on the fence about which way to go and while this is nice work and the wood can be expensive, I think $3500 is a little steep. My biggest concern is what does it look like from the back? Like if it is knocked over how easily would these things come open and visible?

Re: New gun storage....

Instead of one large unit I think I want his furniture in every room from book case, to end tables, to computer desks. Awesome vid.

Nothing securing to the studs wouldn't fix. I would just like the plans and I would build it myself in my shop. It is nice work though, it's not easy building secret compartments into solid wood cabinetry and making it look invisible.

Re: New gun storage....

^^^ I totally agree. I wish I had he plans to. I would building at my dads house. I wonder if he would sell us the plans. $3500 is a lot. I mean it looks nice but you can get a decent safe for that or cheaper. However, I really like this hidden in plain sight aspect.

Re: New gun storage....

I'd like to know how he can build it with tight tolerances to mask the joints and still not be effected by seasonal humidity changes.

Re: New gun storage....

I'd almost rather get a nice safe and build a hidden wall around it. Just take a few feet off the end of a room. Cool idea, just way too much money. He should patent the design and mass produce so he could sell volume at a lower price. I'd pay $1000 for one.

It would be perfect if you lived in a country that didn't allow firearms(or limited rights).
