LMT .308 MWS

Re: LMT .308 MWS

I would believe that is too much scope, if it is used as a small-unit support weapon (DMR)? Nothing wrong with the scope, if it is used for long range shots.

If you want to use it as a DMR, it would be more advantageous, to use a smaller magnification scope, with a much wider FOV ?

Re: LMT .308 MWS

Looking sweet BigB308...nice to see you ending up with such a nice rifle after patiently putting it all together
smile.gif

The T-1 offset at 45degrees is a very effective secondary sight for CQB distances, and after running one with the LT724 for a year or two on different rifle setups, I was very surprised at how natural and fluid it feels, and overall is very fast to pick up and effectively use. It's not awkward at all given your not in a really tight squeeze with your rifle, thereby not potentially having the needed cant or rifle movement in order to bring the sight up.

With that said, and long story short...very few folks including myself will ever really utilize, or need that $600-700 secondary sighting system, and moreover it will add weight and profile size with potentially very little reward beyond looking neat. Just food for thought, everyone has different needs, so you might very well have reasons for needing a secondary setup.

Thanks for your service brother:) </div></div>

Looks like to me that he just took his scope and mount off his AI and put it on this rifle. Looks to be the S&B mkII given the caps on the scope. Im sure they have plenty of those. I agree id rather run mine like this. That ACOG looks huge.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

it is not an aimpoint, they are offset RTS iron sights... love them and they are not only fun to play with at the range for shits and giggles, BUT i use them for the remote chance of a deer running past my deer stand at close range. I really like them and I can get about 1-1/2" to 2" groups at 75yards with them. you can also see my velco mod on the brass deflector = a must have for those that reload!!!

What stock do you suggest? I am obviously thinking MagPul PRS but their newer MOE fixed stock looks good too - I'm just not sure it is compatible with the LMT platform...

Since I will need to replace the receiver extension who makes a good one for the AR-10 style guns?

Any suggestions on a new spring? Or what do you think is the best buffer to use? I see some folks using Slash's heavy buffers - what exactly does that improve? I see folks talking about reduced recoil but does it do anything for reliability?

I bought Brownells PRS Endine stock kit on my LMT and seem to be better the the Standard DPMS kit + PRS stock I put on my Armalite in taming recoil.

ENIDINE PRS 308 AR STOCK KIT

Includes:
• AR-.308 Fixed AR-Restor - AR-.308 Fixed fits ArmaLite® AR-10® and other AR-style .308 riles with fixed A2-style stock and full-length rifle buffer.
• AR-Style .308 Precision Rifle Stock - Fully adjustable stock and comb for AR-Style .308 rifles readily adapts length of pull and comb height with two click-detent adjustment wheels. Drop-in installation on rifles with standard A1/A2 fixed buffer tubes without A2 spacer. Rubber buttpad seats securely onto your shoulder and won’t slip during sustained shooting exercises. Fully-raised comb will not get in the way of charging handle operation. Removable base cover conceals an accessory rail to provide a mounting platform for a monopod. Removable sling loops can be mounted on either side of stock to accommodate your preferred carry position. Available in Black.
• AR-10 CS Buffer Spring - These flat wire, high-quality action/buffer springs from champion shooter David Tubb will perform flawlessly and are duty rated for 500,000 compression cycles at maximum performance. Made to “extra power” specs without the extra material, these springs are surprisingly lightweight, yet extremely durable. Gives correct timing and resistance on the recoil stroke and a controlled rebound ensures reliable feeding with consistent forward thrust on every shot. Keeps the bolt locked a little longer to allow pressures more time to subside for perfect cycling.
•Buttstock Extension Tube – Black.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

I loaded up a bunch of mags with my new ammo 175gr Federal Gold Match GM762M2 to be specific. I had bought a good amount, 500 rounds, and wanted to order more but wanted to check it out with my two favorite rifles.

I had my FN SPR A1 with as well, 3.2 mils to hit my 600 yard target, dead nuts middle with this ammo. With the LMT 16" I was hitting dead nuts with 5.0 mils, of course I tried 3.5 to start, assuming it would be close, nope. It seemed that with the 175grs they drop quite a bit quicker than my 168s (black hills) with the LMT 16" barrel. The 168s were about 3.7~4.2 with the Vortex PST 1-4x so it isn't a really good gauge if you will being 4x.

My question to you guys is, those with the 18" barrel, shooting this ammo, do you also see 5.0 mils or does it get up higher at range? As in you see 4.0~4.5, I understand the gas is stealing some of the propulsion, as well as barrel length, but it seems pretty radical the 5.0.

I used the NF 5.5-22x, this is the scope I initially checked accuracy with on the rifle, and it was with 168grs, but the farthest out I got at the time was 300 yards.

For the record, no misfeeds and no malfunctions from the ammo, once again I over inserted the P-Mag, slapping it in, have to sometimes pull down as it advances beyond the mag grasping point. If that makes sense, in other words the rifle ate the ammo and now I just need to try it out in my Sig 716.

I would be happier than a pig in shit if my groups tightened up after re-torquing my barrel.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

just buy this kick ass 20" SS barrel LMT for $2899.99 with free shipping to your FFL. Kick your FFL $25 bucks. Done! You will be shooting the rifle by the middle of next week! Same place I purchased mine from and would purchase from again. Very easy once you get your FFL lined up.

My rifle is the LMT MWS 20" chrome lined barrel. Scope is vortex 4-16x50 PST in FFP (so it keeps zero at all magnifications), can pick either MOA or MIL... I went with a MOA myself. Mount is a Larue LT158 with a 10moa built in cant. I'm also running offset RTS iron sights for the remote possible chance of a deer running past my stand or kicking up a deer on the way to my stand which has happened to me before. RTS offset sights are also loads of fun at the range for shits and giggles. Can get about 1-1/2" to 2" groups at 75yards with the RTS offset iron sights. I'm sure I could do better with more practice but so far I've been unable to get under 1" group at 75yards with the iron sights, but i'm working on it!!!

My ammo of choice is Black Hills 168 grs. Shoots the tightest in my .308s. YMMV.

I'm not shooting long (I consider long over 600 yrds for a .308), it's just some expensive shit. If I shot a bunch over 600, I'd probably use 175-177's.

Mine MWS shoots great, I'm as happy as a puppy with two peckers.

I got a few minutes to myself, so snapped a couple pics of the new LMT MWSE (16" chrome lined barrel). Sorry for the quality - they're phone pics. I'll try and get some better ones up this week. So far, here are the mods: Harris swivel bipod, WOTAC 4.5 to 14 scope (I was one of the lucky ones that actually received their FFP scope from Wonders Optics - saving up for an NF but my wallet needs to recover first), Burris QD mount, Troy Mideivel flash suppressor, Magpul BUIS, Magpul enhanced trigger guard, and a ton of Magpul and DPMS 20 round mags.

LMT MWS is all ready for deer hunting. Took off the bipod, took off scope sun shade, slapped in the 5round mag, and added the 3point sling. She is ready to rock-n-roll !!! She is also zero'd nuts on with both scope and offset RTS sights with 168grn SP hornady ammo. Hopefully I'll have some big buck pics on here in a couple weeks!!

elfster, couldn't help but notice the new charge master in the background. That's a great tool for creating consistent loads. I be curious to get your opinion on your favorite load for this rifle.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

its somewhat of a light load, but 40.5grn varget, 168amax hornday bullets, and set at max pmag length. my pet load for this rifle. just don't feel the need to go any hotter as i don't shoot over 300yards and 40.5grn varget works the best for me. my LMT loves 168amax. i can usually pick up a box of 168amax 100pcs for about $27bucks. I would say anything between 40 to 43grns varget... hornday manual shows 44grns varget max for 165-168 bullets.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

I dropped by Palmetto State Armory today (as they are local to me) hoping to pick up a couple of boxes of 168gr FGMM with no joy. They'd sold the last few boxes they had shortly before I arrived.

They were however running a special on Prvi Partizan 168gr Match. I picked up a few boxes and a box of Hornady 168gr AMAX Match.

Anyone tried the Prvi in their MWS? Is it ok or crap? How about the brass, is it OK for reloading?

It was only $13 a box so I'm not really out much other than trigger time if it sucks, and I've been getting a little itchy to hit the range.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

Privi 165 sp has been gtg through my mws. No experience with the 168 otm. The brass is also gtg from my 1x ammo.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

Thanks Trident. Have you tried any other Offset mounts for the Aimpoint? Do you think the Larue Mount you are using would work with the NightForce F1 turrets? they stick out pretty far.

Ive been looking at the KAC offset mount and the KAC offset BUIS. I think it would be a sweet setup. I originally was thinking about the GDI mount. But by the time I buy that mount and the Aimpoint it will cost way to much. Plus I would rather have the Aimpoint mounted to the gun just in case the scope breaks or what not I can pop it off and still have the Aimpoint attached to the gun.

3.2 mils seems too flat for 175 fgmm.... I dont see how that would be possible if you had a 100y zero. Are you sure thats correct? Did you check the distance with a rf?

Re: LMT .308 MWS

You make a very important point, and one that mattered to me greatly when using a secondary setup...and that is that I don't want my secondary setup relying on my primary setup's mount. If you bust, bend, or break your primary optic's mount..you just sh*t-canned both sighting systems.

That said, for precision/prone shooters, a SAR mount at 12oclock on one of the rings is most likely gonna be the best solution for that shooter's needs.

If your on the move, and in more dynamic type situations...no questions asked for myself, the 45 degree rail mounted secondary is far more effective and useful.

Only other mount I tried was the cheaper DD 1oclock offset mount which was alright. The big seller in the larue was the RTZ QD ability...I hated the idea of constantly having the secondary on my rifle when I knew I wouldn't be using it on that occasion...i.e. shooting groups on a square range.

I think you already got it figured out pal.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

elfster1234, a question about your loading with 168 gr AMAX. I can't find 168 gr AMAX loading data at Hodgdon web site. But if I use 168 gr SMK data, it calls for 42-46 gr of Varget. So, your loading of 40.5 gr of Varget is way below this range. I guess you have already proven that this loading works. But is my assumption of using 168 gr SMK data for the 168 gr AMAX incorrect?

Re: LMT .308 MWS

Picked up my surefire 762ss suppressor yesterday. Had time today to snap a quick video shooting it. Not to happy with the results of the video sound, but I have never been pleased with the way suppressors sound on video.

Shooting an 8" plate at roughly 225 yards. First 2 rounds unsuppressed are hits, the first suppressed round is a miss followed by 2 more hits suppressed.

Just got my new mws the other day. Yes I know it is a gigantic scope for the rifle, but it had been sitting on the bench for several months. The horus reticle/large magnification range is nice when shooting it in 260 format. Also have 16" cl for it

123 amax or scenar, working on a 130 berger load right now. My 260 bolt gun runs 140 amax and 142 smk, but I couldn't make it happen with the 1/9 on this barrel

Been shooting for groups last couple days. Found some nodes with varget and the amax's. I'll dig the chrony out tomorrow and see what happens. It's an 18" 260 barrel btw

Well, it was the zero! At 100 yards I had a little over 1" above point of aim, this really helps make sense of what was going on. Wonder what the difference made at the 800 yards would be without this error, I hope to go out this week and try again but it might be hard with being so busy.

I am not sure how my zero got changed, but I never shot at paper at 100 yards with the 175s. Still don't get why the 175s would be doing "better" than the 168s, other than the brand.

Quite happy with this ammo at longer rage, and my LMT eats it, and the FN SPR really shoots it well. Very happy.

I found the same with my 20" 260. I shoot 142s in my bolt gun as well but the LMT just doesn't shoot 'em well.

I settled on 123 Amaxs going about 2800. I got them going much faster but accuracy fell off.

The Bergers would be nice but i don't wanna spend the money to feed it those haha!!

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: matu52</div><div class="ubbcode-body">What is your pet load dirtracer? </div></div>

It likes H4831sc. I got it going faster with H4350 but it was producing fliers like crazy. It's much more stable with the 4831sc. I worked up to 48.0gr behind the 123 Amax. Everything still looks good and it's only going 2800fps.

With 44.5gr of H4350 i was getting 2880fps and could've probably gone faster.

My 142 bolt gun load was going 2800fps with 44.0gr of H4350.

My bolt seems to have a nicely machined flash hole since i don't get much primer flow into the flash hole at all. The primers look like the ones that come out of my Surgeons.

Above all else im just happy to have it shooting well regardless of how fast its going. It definitely is more picky about loads then my 16" 308 CL barrel.

</div></div>

Re: LMT .308 MWS

Has anyone got experience with the DPMS 4 rounder?
I just bought a DPMS LR-308 4 round mag for my LMT MWS and the mag won't lock in. When I remove the upper and try it locks in just fine. I tried with a round in the mag and its the same story. Any ideas what the problem could be?

My rifle is the LMT MWS 20" chrome lined barrel. Scope is vortex 4-16x50 PST in FFP <span style="color: #FF0000">(so it keeps zero at all magnifications)</span>, can pick either MOA or MIL... </div></div>
Hmm! May want to reword that!

What company produces the highest-quality offset (iron) sights, I can use with a 3-12 power scope ?

Who produces the L129A1 (U.K. style) flash-hider ? What vendor sells the flash hiders ?

Surefire is the vendor

Anybody know the part # ?
