I have a Win. model 70 in .270wsm. It is the super shadow or something like that. In the market for an aftermarket stock, I know the scope base for the WSM action for Winchester is a special one. When purchasing a stock will the regular short action inlet work or is there also a special inlet for the wsm.
Thanks

Re: model 70 inlet

McMillan and maybe manners (don't know for sure) make stocks for the win model 70. The key will be knowing the bottom metal inlet. The action inlet is only half the issue. There may be less expensive alternatives but they are few and far between for win70's.

You can call McMillan and they can tell you if they have a program for your bottom metal.

Re: model 70 inlet

I realize all bottom metal can be different. Simply need to know if inlet for action is for short action, or a separate WSM action.

Re: model 70 inlet

I'd guess it would be the same - short=short. But you'd know for sure if you call the stock manufacturer. The stocks are milled on a CNC machine for the specific action and barrel profile.

Re: model 70 inlet

Just because it's a short action caliber, doesn't mean it's a short action receiver. For example, I have an M70 Classic Long action that was a .270. I also have a M70 push feed that is a Long action that was a .243.
Exact same long action foot print.

What is the distance from the front hole to the back hole center-to-center?

Re: model 70 inlet

Well seeing as my long actions are both 7 5/8...I'm calling yours a short action since I believe the SA is action 7 1/8 center to center.

Re: model 70 inlet

Yep. the Winchester WSM Actions in the Super Shadow are the Short Action length. Inlet would be the same. McMillan does the SPR WSM stocks, ask for that, should even fit your floorplate magazine with no fitting.

Good luck.

Re: model 70 inlet

thanks action guy, helps a bunch. looking to set up a punishingly light weight rig and wanting to try a mcmillan.

Re: model 70 inlet

A short 70 action is a short 70 action. But a WSM has a WSM ejection port length of about 2.84". A standard caliber may have a standard ejection port of about 2.54" or a 2.84" WSM port. We have seen both on .243 and .308 rifles. Measure on your rifle when ordering a stock.

Re: model 70 inlet

Thanks for the heads up, ill be sure to measure all I can and have it close by when I order.
