Researching the Monarch X for my new 300wm AICS build. Can't find anything using the search engine on it.

Is it enough magnification for shooting out past 1k which is my goal with this new gun?

Quality?
Features?
Performance?

Re: Nikon Monarch X? Rundown?

I have the 4-16x. I've had it for a year now. Its a well made some with great optics. Its function has been flawless. I have used it on a 22 at steel plates out to 200yds and on my Nesika 260rem out to 600yds. The turrets have firm clicks, glass is clear but the total range out adjustment is where most people will complain. Ive even shot one mounted on a Barrett 82 out to 700yds with first round hits. The scope is strong thats for sure. Might not have all the fancy bells and whistles like some other brands but its a fine scope in my book.

Re: Nikon Monarch X? Rundown?

I have the 2.5-10 on my .308 and shoot out to 600 yards with it. Tracks great and returns to zero. I undertstand that the new ones are not the same as mine though. They changed the turret housing, maybe? Mine is about three years old and I love it. Had the 4-16, but like a fool I sold it to a friend who will not part with it. Great glass.

EDIT... For shooting out to 1000 you may not have enough elevation in the 4-16. I think it only has like 50MOA of internat travel. I'm sure others wil chime in. The 2.5-10 has over 60MOA and I'm running mine on a Nightforce 40MOA base. It works as a cheap Zero stop

Re: Nikon Monarch X? Rundown?

It all depends on which specific model (magnification) you are talking about, but assuming you mean the 4-16x, then my gripe would be the relative lack of total adjustment being only 50MOA. Sure, with a 20MOA base you should have more than enough to get to 1k and beyond with any common, commercial 300WM match ammo, but with the 300WM, how far do you want to shoot? Let that be your guide as to whether the scope "is enough" for you.

Also, as with most Nikon scopes...you'll be stuck with either a nikoplex reticle or a mildot, then mixing MOA adjustment with a mil-based reticle.

Then, to top it all off, the MSRP of the scopes at roughly $1300-1400...for a SFP scope...come on!! Is this REALLY the scope you have settled on?

Re: Nikon Monarch X? Rundown?

hahaha no I am just trying to find a reputable company with good glass. Tell ya the truth I am SO VERY TIRED of looking at optics and just about to just order the nicest sh*t out there under 2500 and be done with it! Literally SICK OF THIS!

I am scoped out however I want to make sure that I am doing the very best I can considering the money I am spending.

Been there, done that with the "tired of trying to narrow the field" stuff!!

The problem is...what constitutes the "nicest sh*t out there under 2500" which is open to varying levels of interpretation. For that price limit and lower, there's NF (including used models for the price range of the Nikon), USO, Zeiss, Vortex, some of the Kahles, Premier LT and Hunter scopes, some of the Steiners...and of course...nearly all Leupolds.

Only YOU can decide what will work best for you, but knowing a few key details, the folks here can likely narrow the field for you and you can pick from there. Most importantly (in no particular order): 1) what magnification range do you want/need (or max power would be another way about it); 2) what reticle do you want (and plan on getting a scope with adjustments that match the reticle...i.e. - MOA reticle/MOA adjustments or MIL/MIL); 3) do you want/need SFP or FFP; 4) how much do you want to spend (ideally that is...despite having up to $2500 to play with). There are other factors that you may deem important that you also may want to consider, including but not limited to illumination, zero-stop/RTZ/etc.,

Again...no knock against the Nikon Monarch X, but for the money you'll otherwise be spending on the Nikon (~$1300) I think you can do better.

Re: Nikon Monarch X? Rundown?

Awesome bro thanks! I think I'm just gonna go NF. If I could find a Razor per owned I would do that. Thanks for feeling my pain!
