Been there, done that with the "tired of trying to narrow the field" stuff!!
The problem is...what constitutes the "nicest sh*t out there under 2500" which is open to varying levels of interpretation. For that price limit and lower, there's NF (including used models for the price range of the Nikon), USO, Zeiss, Vortex, some of the Kahles, Premier LT and Hunter scopes, some of the Steiners...and of course...nearly all Leupolds.
Only YOU can decide what will work best for you, but knowing a few key details, the folks here can likely narrow the field for you and you can pick from there. Most importantly (in no particular order): 1) what magnification range do you want/need (or max power would be another way about it); 2) what reticle do you want (and plan on getting a scope with adjustments that match the reticle...i.e. - MOA reticle/MOA adjustments or MIL/MIL); 3) do you want/need SFP or FFP; 4) how much do you want to spend (ideally that is...despite having up to $2500 to play with). There are other factors that you may deem important that you also may want to consider, including but not limited to illumination, zero-stop/RTZ/etc.,
Again...no knock against the Nikon Monarch X, but for the money you'll otherwise be spending on the Nikon (~$1300) I think you can do better.
