I've been carrying a Glock 27 in a Comp-tac Minotaur inside the pants. It's very comfortable and I like the leather/kydex combo.

Now I bought the S&W Shield and was wondering if there's something better out there. I can just order a new kydex mold for my Comp-tac and change it out, but I like the idea of having another holster ready to go.

I would like something with a little more retention. With the Comp-tac the gun just slip in and out. Never had an issue with it but I would like to have it tighter. My other option is trying the Raven Concealment holster. They are all kydex. Any comments on Raven holsters?

Re: Raven Concealment holster

I carry my M&P 45 in my Raven all the time. Nice and snug fit. I also on occasion carry it when I am hunting. Climbing trees with climber etc and have no issue with the gun coming out. Problem is, its like waiting on a can.

Re: Raven Concealment holster

I bought one about 2007 for my full size M&P w/ light. It eventually cracked a year or two later and Raven promptly replaced it with no hassle (they apparently now use thicker Kydex). I mostly wear it IWB with the rubber IWB straps but sometimes in winter I wear it OWB. Very well made and they stand behind it.

I really like my RCS just got a new one for the M&P9c. I also have one for the G19 and XD9 My wife and I both run RCS they are great quality and work great I wouldn't use anything else for ccw

Re: Raven Concealment holster

Have you tried adjusting the Comptac? I tightened my C-tac down several years ago with the hex screws. It was fine until it spent a day empty in a car on a hot summer day. Then the oven was useful in tightening it down (and making it look like a holster again).

I did and the glock27 holds better but because of the construction with leather it will never have the retention of all kydex. I still like it and use it though.

Re: Raven Concealment holster

RCS is a great company truth be told the newest holster I got for the M&P9c seems to be an improvement on the other holsters I have from 2010.

Re: Raven Concealment holster

Try personal security holsters if you get a chance.

I have a raven from I believe 2009(it's been awhile) for my glock 26. I have no issue with it other then the retention seems to be on the loose side. It is still my go to holster for the 26, but not for long.

I found personal security holsters here on the hide, and I ordered one for my duty smith and Wesson, and love it. Much tighter around the firearm then my raven, but is still very comfortable. I just ordered a couple more pieces from them, and hopefully more in the future.

Looks like good stuff, I will try one for my 1911. Other than that I have a few RC Holsters and they have been great.

Re: Raven Concealment holster

I'm running a Crossbreed mini-tuck for my shield and I like it alot, its very similar to the minotaur. I also a raven for my 5" pro w/x300. I love the raven but I still prefer an IWB holster with leather backing for everyday concealment.
