Just wondering what you guys think about the Otis cleaning kit. They have a .308/.338 sniper cleaning kit that I'm interested in using for my Savage 110ba .338. Any of you guys out there use them?

Also any of you think it's worth it to get the military version which has blue/black anodized components? What does that actually do anyway?

I'll pass on this gloryfied boresnake. just my opinion.

I have one for my 5.56mm. its a good kit but is more of a field kit imo. Its best to sit down and use a guide and stuff IMO. However, I do have one and that is currently the only cleaning supplies I have for my ARs other than some Hoppes and stuff.

That's what I've been reading, get a dewey rod and a bore guide. But to me, pulling the plastic coated cable through with the full contact patch seems like a pretty good cleaning method? I would like to hear more from those of you that have an otis cleaning kit, thanks!

i have one and it works well for for my 17. I prefer them over the bore snakes because there isnt anything to break. its one solid metal cord.

Re: Otis cleaning kit for .338 lapua?

I have several, and have used them on everything from .22 LR to .50 BMG. Like has been said, they're great in the field but not very convenient compared to a nice coated rod.

If I'm in a hurry, I'll toss one in my range bag and use it to remove oil from the bore prior to shooting.

The black "military" versions have a coating on the accessories that wears off (not anodized - all the parts are brass). The cables have a black plastic jacket as well. More snipery, but they don't work any better.

Check eBay for good deals. I'd just pick up the .308 version and use the end accessories you already have - they're standard thread.

Got two...use them on everything from .22 to 7.62 and 8x57.

As others have said...best for range/field use.

No substitute for pukka cleaning kit (bore guide/rod etc.)

This is exactly how I use my OTIS kits. Great for what they are, but no substitute for a quality rod and guide, especially for precision rifle.
