I (actually Chad Dixon) just put a Badger FTE Muzzle Brake on my Model 70, 300 WM 1000 yard rifle.

I'm really impressed with the way it works. Equally impressed with Chad's work, fast, and reasonably priced. Not to mention he did it so was I could use my existing front sight set up, and whipped out a Tread Protector for the times I can't use the brake (NRA Matches).

Now to the jest of my post. I want one on my Model 70 375 H&H. Problem is the smalles barrel diameter I can find for the FTE brake is .800. My Model 70 is .740 where the barrel goes.

Is it possible to get a FTE that fits a smaller barrel? or is it feasable to put shims under the clamping portion of the brake to bring ti to .800?

Re: Badger Ord. FTE Muzzle Brake

I would think that a split-sleeve would work just fine if your heart is set on the FTE (and understandably so - I have this brake on several rifles and really like it).

Re: Badger Ord. FTE Muzzle Brake

Badger now has the micro fte brake. That one is 1/2-28tpi threaded but does not have a clamping section like the FTE. Just a suggestion.

Re: Badger Ord. FTE Muzzle Brake

Thanks for the info on the micro FTE - wasn't aware that Badger was making that. Looks like a good option...

Re: Badger Ord. FTE Muzzle Brake

Using a 1/2X28 only leaves .0625 barrel around the bore, (.5-.375/2=0.0625).

Isn't that kind of a thin margin for a .375 H&H?

Re: Badger Ord. FTE Muzzle Brake

Kraig,

I would not be comfortable with using a 1/2x28 on a 0.375" bore, but there is a 5/8x24 version of the Micro FTE (part number 249-82).

Re: Badger Ord. FTE Muzzle Brake

An option may be getting Chad Dixon getting one from Badger before they bore out the thread area and have him bore, tap to spec on the .375?

Re: Badger Ord. FTE Muzzle Brake

I can just indicate off the existing threads and enlarge to whatever. I'd use 5/8-24 as a minimum assuming there's enough OD to support it.

what am I thinking, it's already 5/8x24

Looking at mine, may not be safe to turn down the outside with the clamp there.

Have you checked the R&D brake? It has a smaller OD(overall) and may look better on the .375 barrel?

Chad, I have a better idea. Find me a brake like the FTE that will work on my Model 70 375, and tell me when to bring it up and how much money to bring with me.

Seems that would solve my problem.

Re: Badger Ord. FTE Muzzle Brake

Kraig,

The Badger stuff works well. Very well. That being said I've recently installed a half dozen or so brakes from Jarod Joplin's outfit (American Precision Arms-APA) and they too run very well.

Threads are clean/qualified, runout is near zip, and the port geometry takes the snort out of a rifle really well. I think it'd be a great candidate for what your needing.

Re: Badger Ord. FTE Muzzle Brake

They have a micro FTE that is 5/8x24 also. Look on badgers wesite under brakes. I talked to marty about it and I am going to put one on some of my 308's. I'm sure you can have someone just bore the hole then.
