I am building a lighter weight Mega based MATEN .308 AR. I will suppress the gun with a surefire SOCOM series suppressor and make shots out to 800yds. I plan to mainly hunt with it so being super heavy is not desired. I would like a 16" mid gas barrel with good accuracy with proper ammunition.

Other than the Ranier Arms UltraMatch barrels, what do you recommend and why? I'm not opposed to spending more if its worth it.

I need a DPMS barrel extension because I already have a DPMS pattern BCG. Also, are there any .308 switchable gas blocks available? I've read about Paladin Machine, any others? I'm hoping to get a KeyMod upper when they are released if it happens soon.

Check out Black Hole Weaponry. Looks like they make something that will work for you. I bought one of their barrels for my 6x45 build and I'm pleased with it.

AR15performance makes a couple lightweight, nitrided 308 barrels (16" and 18"). Might be worth checking them out - can't beat the price. I have considered using their barrels, because they get consistently very good reviews for accuracy - just haven't done it yet.

Fulton Armory makes a midweight 18.5, which is know isn't 16, but they also have pretty good reviews for accuracy.

I went with the Fulton Armory 18.5" light weight barrel. It's about as light as you can get, has rifle length gas system, and is chrome lined. I was nailing spent propane bottles with mine at 570yrds last weekend with ease.

My brother recent built me a MATEN and used JPs 18 inch, light weight contour, 11 twist barrel with mid length gas port and adjustable block.

It's an absolute hammer and not an over bearing bull barrel. It's so accurate I've left shooting bolt guns altogether.

Part number JPSM308-18L11K. I'm in San Anotnio and you are more than welcome to come look at it and shoot it if you are in the area.

The Barrel has to be no longer than 16". There are a lot of good 18" and longer, but I'm looking for a 16 on this build. I love my 18" OBR but this is going to be lighter and handier.

I had not looked at ar15performance. Thanks for that, I'll check them out. I'm also looking hard at the BHW barrels.

OH! Just called BRUX, that's pretty good stuff. Completely custom barrel for $495 with all the bells and whistles! They were just placed at the top of the list.

For my MA-Ten Mono I used an 18" Rainier Select. Spoke with a gent over there and when I asked if they were in fact Black Hole Weaponry his response was "I can neither confirm or deny" which to me is a confirmation of sorts. Either way my stainless bbl is amazing! I wouldn't hesitate to buy another. I originally bought one from the price stand piont but after seeing it's performance I'm glad I did.
I had my Mega out last month and had 3 shots go sub minute at 500 yards (only did three before letting my buddy shoot the last few rounds we had). I would definitely suggest getting one of their Select bbls as they are only $260 for a 16" and have a 90 day guarantee.

He got my buddy a LW-50 barrel chambered and included matching bolt for around $380. Only about a 2-3 week wait at the time.

Its a medium/heavy weight with an .875 gas block and its not light but its not unbearable either, not considering the performance. My buddies new gun is shooting half minute at 100 yards and velocites are impressive as well. Most of the groups I've seen that he's shot have been in GAP-10 territory. (Flame suit on)

Not saying its as nice as a GAP-10 or it will out shoot one, but Ive seen it shoot just as well when it comes to shooting groups and its consistency is just as impressive.

Good thing I came across this thread, I had the same question. I'll be looking for a barrel in the near future, in 6.5 Creedmoor, for my MATEN, though I'll want a 18 - 22" heavy barrel, as I plan to make this a long range precision build.

No kidding, my SPR needs a big brother. I've been anxiously awaiting the Noveske release, ideally with the NSR.

Lilja makes some ready to go barrels in 308 and 260, but I think the shortest is the AR10740, which is 20". I can't imagine a 260 with less than a 20" barrel.
