My new Nightforce was scheduled to be dropped off yesterday, so like a kid at Christmas I wait all day for santa to come. Keep checking the website and peeking out the window and nothing. The sun goes down and so does my hope, I wake up this morning and see an update on the web that customer was not home!! WTF!!!!

I took the day off work so I could sign for it.. Life sucks... I think I am going to cry like a little girl here in a few.. I need Support and words of encouragement please!!!!

Re: Dam you Fedex!!!!

Translated that probably means the driver either (a) had a duvet day, (b) went home early with boxes still on the truck, or (c) got delayed making his regular "special delivery" to the hottie three streets away and just keyed in "customer not at home" to cover himself.

Happens all the time.

Encouragement? Support?

How about: suck it up - you'll never change these guys and perhaps you might have guessed this could happen - get on the phone and have a rant to Fedex and get them to deliver it to work?

Re: Dam you Fedex!!!!

I have had that happen several times and I also think it is a WTF moment. But, let's analyze it for a moment. You are a FEDEX driver and you decide to have a little longer lunch break or stop for a quickie or are just too far behind to get all your work done in one day. If you tell the boss, or update the computer, by saying that the customer was not home it makes it all good for their part. It isn't like they are going to tell the boss I was just too lazy to get all my packages out so please yell at me for awhile.

Re: Dam you Fedex!!!!

I wonder if this is becoming a trend at Fedex. Last time I used them I was at home waiting for my delivery, checking the website for updates, when the status changed to "delivery delayed by inclement weather" (it was raining) I was expecting a package from UPS the same day which arrived 30 minutes later.

Re: Dam you Fedex!!!!

I found a US Optics box on the porch yesturday when I got home. My sn3 was finally HERE ! When I picked it up the box was too light for a scope, hummm, after opening it I found a uso shirt! damn it.... The shirt is nice but come on ..... putting a shirt in a scope sized box!!!! that is just cruel.

Re: Dam you Fedex!!!!

Leave a bag on the porch that says "cookies for FedEx". Then when he gets back to the truck to dig in, he can be reaching into a bag full of fresh puppy shit! It really pisses them off though

That will teach him to mess with your greatness! Viva la revolucion!!!!!

haha..someone is messing with you big time

Re: Dam you Fedex!!!!

The cool thing about fedex is you can pick up your shipment at the sorting station. A bit easier for express, but also possible for ground. Next time call fedex and have them "hold at station" drive out at 0900 and sign for your box.

This is useful if you have a package that requires signature and dont want to hang out at home all day.

All you need is the waybill number.

Shit happens, I receive parts all the time and actually watched a fedex driver turn around at a loading dock and head out, near lunch time, dock was completely open. Package status was changed to "un-deliverable, loading dock full". If I feel a package is time sensitive, urgent, or I just want the mofo, I pick it up myself.

Re: Dam you Fedex!!!!

Thats odd I saw my replacement Fedex guy ripping into a box and pull out a NightForce yesterday. He said "Schwinggg!" threw the box in my trash and took off like a high school kid that had just been touched by an NFL cheerleader.

I knew the feeling because the regular guy delivered my S&B 5-25x56 H2CMR on Tuesday and despite the six hour warning I havent gone to see my physician.

LOL...........sorry

Re: Dam you Fedex!!!!

I give my UPS and fedex guy a gift card every Christmas. They always call me when I have something coming, if they miss me. They'll stop by in the evening........I have no compliant on them

Re: Dam you Fedex!!!!

Fedex drops at my house usually after 7pm, sometimes as late as 8:30pm. Combine that with the fact that the driver is as quiet as Jet Li tiptoeing across a dojo floor-if I'm not careful I have shit sitting on my front porch all night!

I must be at the end of the line for their route.

Re: Dam you Fedex!!!!

Had something coming from FedEx once that required a signature. Driver came by at 11:00 a.m. I'm at work; no one home. I see the note on screen door when I get home at 4:00. Driver tries 2 more times at 11:00. What is it they say about insanity: doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results?

Can't really blame him. I'd have probably done the same. I like UPS better. Big Brown always comes by after I get home. I must be towards the end of the route.

Re: Dam you Fedex!!!!

Just call fedex and sort it out with them. I would make it quite clear that you took a day off work to ensure you were there for their driver who showed a complete lack of integrity by claiming you were not there when you were. You might want to make sure you didnt leave the house for a while to get lunch or something.

Re: Dam you Fedex!!!!

Happens to me daily. I just pick it up at the main shipping place....90 miles away....

Re: Dam you Fedex!!!!

Was there a door tag?

I can tell you 9 out of 10 times this happens with FedEx. 2 out of 10 times with ups.

If you don't have a door tag he did not make the delivery.

Jesus, I was going to bitch that mine is 22 miles away. But, it is heavy traffic, it's an hour each way. Last time, fuckwit driver said "no door bell". For 17 years everyone else has been able to find my doorbell.

I have learned that there is Fedex Ground, Fedex Express, direct signatures, indirect signatures, hi-dee fucking-ho.

I use UPS, every chance I can.

YMMV

Re: Dam you Fedex!!!!

Well guys, I drive for fedex express. I've NEVER coded a stop as not being home without actually going there. I've heard about fedex ground doing stuff like that, and as they are contractors/owner-operators they can get away with shit like that. As a corporate employee, they can check my stops and see where I've been at what time. People have been fired for doing stuff like.

Now, I HAVE attempted stops, rang the bell and knocked on the door with no response...coded it and left a door tag. Customer calls later and says some bullshit that I didn't ring the bell and that they were home all day waiting....like I would sneak up quietly and leave a door tag without ringing or knocking just so I can come back the next day.....maybe they were dropping a deuce or rubbing one out while waiting for their package....who knows.

I feel bad for cover-me not getting his package and MAYBE the driver did blow it off and code it, but I have had people that just didn't here me when I was there.

As Roggom suggests (and if you're not too far away) you can have your package held OR have it sent to a Fedex Office (formally Kinkos) for pickup there if it's closer. I get my stuff held at the station. Funny thing is when I get a machinegun delivered to the station and my co-workers are asking whats in the box...I just smile!

Re: Dam you Fedex!!!!

It could be worst. I had a Bartlein barrel delivered while I had my hands full, so I told the driver to prop it up by the door. A few minutes later I found the box was empty with a round hole on one end.

Re: Dam you Fedex!!!!

I got an automated call on Tuesday from FedEx informing me that my S&B PMII would be delivered Wednesday, which agreed with the tracking via the website.
Shuffled my clients around so I could be home to sign for it.
It never showed. I track the package again Wednesday night and it has not even made it to the regional hub yet!
It showed up Thursday.

FedEx will be my last choice from now on.

Joe

Re: Dam you Fedex!!!!

This has happened to me me many times with FedEx and and UPS but is more common with UPS in my area. After the making several calls about it to the hub the driver now knows my name and has stopped pulling crap like this with me.

Re: Dam you Fedex!!!!

For you it was FedEx...for me it was UPS...though, to be fair, the did Email me at 0003 to let me know the rings I ordered had been rescheduled to arrive Monday, instead of today...guess then ended up in Kentucky after leaving AZ, on their way here to MN...my range trip tomorrow to sight in the new scope has been delayed...totally stinks

I had this very thing happen with UPS and a Krieger barrel. I lack the words to describe the sinking feeling I had.

Same here and it was UPS, but I still like them way better then Fex Ex. Sad part is, I didnt insure it and got 100 in return and paid the buyer back. Lesson learned. OP I would also be pissed and would at very least give them a mouthfull over the phone and in person when they do show up. Call up corporate.

Re: Dam you Fedex!!!!

And here's one for UPS....Some years back I was having a Sterling MkIV built on a Sten tube (registered machinegun). Problem was where the pistol grip mounted for the Sterling was right where the serial number was from the manufacturer. So the C2 sent it back to me so I could ship it to the original mfr for him to re-engrave the serial number in a new location (fed law allows ONLY the original mfr to relocate).

A week and a half goes by and still no Sten tube. I called the C2 and he tracked it and says it was delivered the previous week. I went to the back of my house and propped up on the deck was a smell box that had been sitting out for over a week! Funny thing is on BOTH sides of the address label was "signature required" stickers.....yeah, I was relived AND nuclear pissed off!

Re: Dam you Fedex!!!!

Got to be friends with your driver. If for some reason i miss him,he has given me his cell # and i can call him to find where he is and meet him. Otherwise i have him leave it at the hub and pick it up when its more convenient for me.

Re: Dam you Fedex!!!!

what do you get when you cross FedEx with Ups? fed ups.

-Paulus

Re: Dam you Fedex!!!!

I didn't read all the post, but if I miss the first attempt, or if I know I'm might miss, I just call in and tell the service to keep it at the station for pick up.

My UPS guy is awesome. He made a second attempt same day, after I called in after the miss, to hold it. I found it at home. Good driver. Nightforce glory jack.

Re: Dam you Fedex!!!!

I have dogs. The FED-Ex driver has this under control, always get my packages. The UPS driver will not deliver the package nor will he leave any note that there was an attempt made to deliver. When I check the website it always says either 'no one at home' or 'adult signature required'. Rarely is either true. My wife even confronted the guy once as he just made a loop around our cove. I called UPS to complain and they said it is the driver's option to deliver a package or not. I now have to go to the hub to pick up anything delivered by UPS. I described my situation to the lady at the hub. She looked at her terminal and said, "I can see who your driver is and this does not surprise me". She also confirmed that the driver does not have to deliver because 'the safety of the package is the driver's responsibility'.

Re: Dam you Fedex!!!!

Hows this..... Mike Bush had built me a few rifles 1 year. I live in a busy well traffic area. My son comes home about 4:30 pm to find a large box leaning against the door and takes it in side. He has no clue what it is. I new that it was to be delivered that day due to checking the tracking number. Son calls me at work to tell me something came. I ask him if he signed for it and he told me no that he had been at work all day and just got home. WTF i am thinking. So i get home that evening check out my new toy and get on the computer and bring up the tracking number. I see that it said delivered and the time. That sum bitch sat out their for about 4 hours. lucky me that someone did not swipe it. So i call up Mike to fuck with him and ask him that it said my rifle was delivered today at such time but i never got it as i was at work. I said, was it to be signed for and said hell yes. Well Mike, i was at work and i never received anything so am i out a rifle or what? I had him going and when i broke down and came out with it he was not a happy camper. I have not had a rifle built with him yet again but when i do i think he will make me pay for it.

Re: Dam you Fedex!!!!

Be glad you haven't had to deal with DHL... or DB Schenker for that matter.

For two months straight DHL delivered packages to me that had a fist sized hole punched in the side of the box, and the box was hemorrhaging packing peanuts. Which when you consider the boxes contained highly sensitive avionics, I was less than pleased. Also, British Airways cargo is by far the WORST. 6 months, they hung onto a unit for 6 months before deciding to call me. And then, these jerkoffs hadn't even cleared the stuff through customs!

My FedEx and UPS drivers are great. However, it sounds like you should just have the stuff held at the station or delivered to your work. I do all the shipping/receiving/logistics at my job and my boss doesn't mind that I have primers, ammo, uppers, anything shipped to us.

Re: Dam you Fedex!!!!

had to get a package delivered via fedex onetime. gave them my address, what? what do you mean you cant deliver it to a rural route address? your friggin truck drove by here yesterday! true story. ups all the way.

Re: Dam you Fedex!!!!

I live in an apartment building with a locked security door, the building managment refuses to make a key for UPS and Fedex (even though they deliver here daily).

They're like ninjas, and if I'm expecting something from either shipper, I have to leave my window open and listen for the loud truck to drive past! Then I gotta run to the entrance, and try to catch them, because they leave the doortags pretty quickly!

My regular UPS guy is pretty good though now that I've had enough stuff delivered... He always asks now if its gun stuff or car stuff, then we chat about it for a few minutes.

Re: Dam you Fedex!!!!

Last month, I saw a FedEx driver drop a package on my door step and race back to the truck...he never knocked. xray9

Re: Dam you Fedex!!!!

I have had issue like this with every delivery agent used.

As others have mentioned use a FedEx drop station. I do this all the time now and it always gets delivered on the day specified and this way I know it's not being left on my porch.

You can do this online too. After you have put your tracking number in it will have an option for "Hold at FedEx Location", you type in your address after hitting it and it will give you a list of several locations to choose from starting with the nearest location. Choose the location you want and confirm. I know some might have to go a bit out of there way but it makes me feel more comfortable knowing that it's not being dropped off at my door step or being taken back for sig required. Most of the drop off stations are open pretty late too for those 9 to 5er's.

Re: Dam you Fedex!!!!

Had UPS deliver some bullets I ordered from midsouth. Tracked it showed as shipped and delivered. NEVER got'm was like WTF where are my boolits.
.
Called UPS called Midsouth...UPS CS was worthless as usual.
.
A few days later get a knock on the door. *after working late* Yell at the dog...yell at the door..open it up an its my cute neighbor from another building. Driver delivered to wrong building but right apt and she picked it up for her neighbor that was out of town then realized it was mine.
.
Apologized for yelling at here, she said no prb smiled an left. Bullets away an back ta bed.
.
The funny part was hearing the tone of the UPS guy's voice when he said "Varmint Nightmare Bullets" I just wish i could've seen the WTF look on his face.
.
Called midsouth an let'm know they had been found an they cancelled the shipment of replacements.

The Fedex guys here do the samething.. I been home a few times waiting for stuff, and when I get up to leave, or check the mail, I have a package there. UPS for the most part will knock, and leave a note if no one is home. UPS will try different times to delievery the package if no one was home at the time they were at the house previous.

FEDEX got me good one time though. Once when I ordered my home theater speakers, these were custom built speakers and are worth a small fortune, that's why in the delivery instructions it said requested signature by homeowner. So when I left to leave in the afternoon one day, to my suprise I had all my speakers on my porch. I was pissed to say the least..

For the most part, besides the above incident, UPS,Fedex, USPS have been pretty good to me with dropping off packages..

Re: Dam you Fedex!!!!

I've had issues with FedEx before. The guys in my area are contracted so consistancy isn't their strong point. The sorting facility is over well over an hour away so making a trip just to pick up a package isn't always possible.

I was waiting to receive my passport back from the Afghan Consulate one trip home. Timing was tight but it was guaranteed to deliver but low and behold after being told it would be dropped off in the morning I'm told that I don't live in an area that offeres Next Day AM delivery. Besides that the drivers weren't leaving the sorting facility until nearly noon!!!! WTF FedEx. I had to reschedule flights at my cost to boot......

Now as for UPS, those guys have their shit together and I can about set my watch with their consistancy.

and I'm sure your packages get treated extra "special" too. He probably drop kicks your shit into the back of his truck then beats the package like it owes him money.

Re: Dam you Fedex!!!!

guys,
I've been shoeing horses for the past 22 years and most of my supplies are delivered by UPS. Everything I order is HEAVY. The way to do it is to give your regular driver an x-mas card with $25 in it around Thanksgiving. Don't wait for christmas because they use xtra personel and you may not see your regular driver, plus your card will stand out as the first of the season. build a little relationship with them and they'll flag you down on the road to deliver a package. Fighting the system never works. working the system avoids fights.

Re: Dam you Fedex!!!!

UPDATE: So my wife stayed home on Friday so I asked her too look out for fedex. I would check the tracking from time to time too see if they had shown up and about 2pm the tracking again said no one home!!!

I call the wife and ask if she had indeed been home all day and yes she had. Now I am smoking pissed, I call fedex and explain to the lady what is going on and what can she do about it? She tells me the only thing is wait till Monday for them to deliver it . I tell her that this package was expected yesterday and nothing then rescheduled for today and nothing both times someone was at home, what makes you think Monday will be any different? she said sorry nothing she can do and ends the call.

I call back and get another person and after a quick explanation she calls the local center who gets the driver on the phone and he states that he did indeed try (but left no tag) but would be more then happy to meet me. I meet the driver
at a local business and get my box.. He had nothing but sorry to say!!!!

Well that does sound fishy.. no gift cards for him this Christmas.

But on the more interesting news.. how does that scope look? Do you love it? Have a range report yet?

Re: Dam you Fedex!!!!

I feel your pain.
They did the same thing to me last year with my Swarovski spotting scope. Like you I took the day off so I could sign for it and they never showed. According to the fedex guy I wasn't home. I called and explained what happened so they sent him back. Never showed up. The next day I had to drive an hour to the fedex hub to pick it up because I wasn't chancing them sending it back because the driver wanted to stop and nap somewhere or what ever happened the first time.
What really get me is fedex and the USPS seem like its no big deal when this stuff happens. I would be standing in the unemployment line if I slacked off like that.

Re: Dam you Fedex!!!!

The Fedex contractors and UPS drivers are under pretty intense pressure to make their routes. I'm lucky that my regular USPS, Fedex, and UPS drivers are awesome. The UPS gal will even leave doggie treats for my pup. Any time there is a package annoyance like a mandatory signature, I phone up and reroute my Fedex stuff to a Fedex/Kinkos location for pickup after work because my packages always come before noon, when no one is home. UPS is a bit more annoying because I get put on call and usually can't pick it up until 7-8pm when the trucks are back in and checked in. The hub isn't far but my evening is wasted.

If I know ahead of time I have a valuable package or signature required package inbound, I just ship it to work where I trust the shipping/receiving crew with incoming stuff under my name. Sounds like a lot of what folks experience is based on how good the crew is for their area. Traditionally I've had way more problems with UPS skipping deliveries or find creative ways to smash things.

I've had an expensive Starrett granite surface plate and Mitutoyo digital height gage go missing. I immediately reported it and worked with the seller because the tracking showed it went to a city 30 miles away, not on the typical delivery path to my location. After enough pressing, they opened an investigation due to the value of the insured package. Eventually the UPS investigator claim they "found the empty box in a dumpster" so they'll be issuing a check for the insured value. What?! Who believes UPS has a gaggle of trenchcoated investigators combing dumpsters in the last known city for missing packages? The check was issued and I got another unit from the company, this time safe and sound. If you've ever known anyone that has worked in a UPS warehouse, they've got some good stories.
