My 338 Lapus measures 3.78 with sierra 300s and 3.89 with berger 300s to the lands. AICS mag is @ 3.65. I haven't shot it with mag length rounds just seems like a lot of jump. Anybody getting good accuracy with that kind of jump? I only have a few rounds down the tube but got good accuracy with both hand loaded about .03 off the lands over H 1000. Really have come up with a load still finding max. I see accurate mags can get to 3.715 in a AICS compatible mag and 3.8 plus in a "CIP" mag. Anybody got experience with this in stiller 338 action. Seems savage is already gone to the long mag and Badger has a CIP length bottom metal anybody using it? How big a PITA is it to inlet the stock to the CIP bottom metal. Really looking for other experience with that kind of jump?

I run mine .120 off the lands to fit the magazine. 90.5gr Retumbo with a velocity of 2720. With this load I have shot a 3.680 group at 1000 with my Savage 110HS

Magazine length for me-regardless of barrel. 3.600" in an AIAW. 338LM will build BIG pressure FAST jammed into the lands.

I like to load mag length but sometimes the bullets don't. My 300gr Bergers like to run right off the lands and that seems to be pretty common with these bullets.

I run the 300 gr. scenars .050 off the lands with great results

one shot is that .5 or .05. Either way sounds like the jump is not that big a deal. Thanks for the help. Just off the lands the Bergers did shoot a little tighter than the sierras. In the mag maybe the sierras will be the way to go.

I meant .050
.050 which should be 50 thousandths off the lands with the 300 grain Scenars

I run 300 gr SMK's at .040 off the lands. Its a close fit for the mag in my 98B. There is a lot of argument out there about meplating, but it also gives you just a little bit more room in your mag!!!
