Re: 16.5" 6.5x47mm lapua

Nice. Now post a pic with your suppressor on it and be sure to give us a range report. Jon Beanland runs a 16" and he said he is getting the 123's to 2750ish

Re: 16.5" 6.5x47mm lapua

nice, very nice! What is the weight on that setup? Also curious on velocity...

Re: 16.5" 6.5x47mm lapua

Very nice what kinda of groups does 6.5 x47 lapua I'm looking to have one built

Re: 16.5" 6.5x47mm lapua

Thanks fellows. This rifle is throated for the 123's so im expecting to get 2700-2800fps with 123 amax's out of it.

As for weight as pictured its 13.2 pounds.

I will have a partial range report up in a day or two with some 107 SMK's wich will be used for coyotes then next up will be the 123 amax's in a few weeks.

Re: 16.5" 6.5x47mm lapua

Excellent. I'm still waiting on my 18" 6.5x47L barrel for my Rem-age build.

Very interested in the 107gr SMK range report. I have a short-barrel 6.5L in the works and was eyeing that projectile. Doing 3000fps or so = very deadly out to 600 or so.

2750 with a 123gr AMax would be awesome setup.

Re: 16.5" 6.5x47mm lapua

I want velocity numbers too, I'm waiting on an 18" 6.5L from black ops precision.

Re: 16.5" 6.5x47mm lapua

I would use the 123's for coyotes so you get some expansion. They can be hard to put down at long range. IMHO.

Agreed. I have a 18" .243 that i'm getting 2700fps with 105gr Berger VLDs out of. I'm curious as how that 6.5x47L retains velocity per shorter barrel.

Re: 16.5" 6.5x47mm lapua

Very interesting. I'm also curious about what velocities you will be getting out of that. 107's - 123's? What powder / load will you be using?

My .260 Rem hunting rifle will have an 18.5" barrel when it's finished (3-9 months). Although my goal is to have a much lighter (sub 9 pound) rifle with scope.

Yes, the 107gr SMK is a gem of a little bullet. Basically the same BC as a 155gr .30cal - 0.450 G1 BC per Litz - but the kicker is you can get them moving really fast in a short barrel, I estimate somewhere around 3000fps from a 20" barrel w/ a 6.5mm cartridge (260, 6.5C, 6.5L). Paper, steel, yotes, etc out to 600yds or so, and the bullet gives up very little to the 123's and even the 130's. Plus a nice gentle recoil impulse.

The 107grs are going into single hole groups at 100yds in my 26" 6.5L at close to 3250fps using H4350 and I have a new barrel at the smith waiting to be reamed and cut, probably to 20".

My plan for powder on the 107gr in the short barrel was start with Varget, a tad faster than H4350; RL15 probably also a good choice. H4350 as a fall back choice.

As such, I'm very interested to hear what the OP can do with his 16.5" and 107grs.

Re: 16.5" 6.5x47mm lapua

well made it to the range today to get the barrel broke in and get used to using a brake.

first up are 107 SMK's over H4350 in order 39.0gr., 39.5gr., and 40.0gr.
last group is my hunting load for my other 6.5 lapua, 129gr. SST over 39.5gr. H4350.

I ignored some fliers as they where all me!

will be doing ladder test and chrono work in a few weeks, then we wil see what she can really do!

Again date and time in pics are wrong, maybe one day i will figure the darn thing out!

Re: 16.5" 6.5x47mm lapua

no chrono data for a couple weeks (have to borrow one), these loads where just to get a quick idea of how everything is working together while doing the brake in. Only load I had any accuracy expectations for was my deer hunting load (129 SST) and it did not dissapoint.

Re: 16.5" 6.5x47mm lapua

sadly I have not been back out with this rifle (truck took a dump). I have some loads ready for testing but still do not have access to a chrono. hopefully within the next 3 weeks I will have a full range report up.

Re: 16.5" 6.5x47mm lapua

That's great. I'm thinking of doing one in an 18" version some time.... Would love to see some kill pictures with it.

Re: 16.5" 6.5x47mm lapua

To give some idea of Short barrel 6.5s, I have a 260 with a 19" barrel with over 2000 rds thru her and she is getting 2700 with the 142SMK. THe load is 43.5gn H4350, Rem 7-08 brass, Fed GM Primer and set on the lands
